sorry Eddie we have a way better team then hoddle era spurs,

Robinson is way better then Keller, Lee in my book is better then taricco.
In-fact we are in a totally different level from hoddles team.

........Or are you just trying to credit Jol as being the best manager we have had in a long, long time (as good as Wenger (because even they will struggle to get "Hoddles" team to 2 top 5 finishes)) and to add to this we have way more depth then any other team to come from spurs in the 90s and early 2000s.

But we also have to be comparitive with the teams around us at the time. I'd say our squad now is better, but not way better, when compared to those of other squads. The Hoddle squad was one of the better squads (top 7 or 8) in the league and I'd say our current squad is slightly better comparitively (top 5 or 6). So whilst our current squad might be better, it isn't that much better in terms of superiority over the opposition. We've always had good squads, but rarely seem to get the balance right. Under Hoddle we had loads of talent, but it was past its sell by date, whilst now we have loads of talent that isn't quite ready. We need to find a better balance of talented up and comers and proven winners.

Richards was actually fairly decent, but then he had some life/career threatening injury like ziege and we lost them both.

Hmm,8 million for a centre half that had no pace and had problems marking people.Next people will be talking about Thacther being a great full back.
As for Etherington,he was a one trick pony, who disappeared from the game as soon as he was kicked up in the air.
A championship player at best!

Unlike, say, Lennon?

In fact, the forward line apart, it is difficult to identify any area of the team where we self-evidently stronger. (And even then we had Keane and Kanoute, and a little later Defoe.)

Is Robinson on current form any better than Keller?

Is Chimbonda any more up for it than Carr?

Is a right-footed Lee much of an improvement on a right-footed Tano?

Bale is a fantastic prospect, but he is not yet in the class of Zeige (and just as injury prone).

King and Gardner are even more injury prone than they were then, while Dawson is dissappointing without Richards excuse of being at death's door.

Jeans, Zokora and Malbranque may have a few years on Rednapp, Anderton and Poyet, but none of them will ever be half the players those were in their prime; while Huddlestone is no more living up to his potential than Davies. Tainio is Freund with injury problems.

I know this is all sounding very negative, but I just don't buy into this crap about what a great squad we have. Frankie did a fantastic job in making over the squad when he replaced Pleat, but we have completely failed to build on that.

Maybe Ramos is the man t turn us around, but I do not believe he is going to do it purely on the training ground.

Got to agree with most of what you have written but with Anderton his prime was years earlier,Poyet had one good season.Redknapp was world class at times for Liverpool at Spurs he always seemed to be injured.
As for carr he really was a special talent until he got that injury. He was every you expect a right back to be!

Carr in his hey day was infinitely superior to Chimbonda.

As for Etherington, this guy is ultimately average. Suits West Ham down to the ground.

Another player who thinks his opinion is more valid than the manager.
As i recall Etherington was not that great, granted now days he is a better player at Wet Spam.
Can anyone remeber, did he wanna leave or did we get rid of?

Agreed.

Love the sig by the way.

I see your point, however I was not talking comparative to the strength of the league but of the actual quality of the team, (Team quality=player quality, team passion, togetherness, manager quality) and not about the comparative.
