Tottenham 2-2 West Ham
Southampton 0-2 Liverpool

Liverpool 2-1 Man City
Chelsea 2-0 Tottenham

Everton 3-0 Newcastle
Man United 3-0 Tottenham

So much for "THANK GOD WE'RE OUT OF IT/We can focus on the League/We are competing for fourth/etc".

Once again, it is nothing more than an excuse.

Stop being blind and naive. We are just not good enough and have a shit mentality.

Europa League is not a death sentence, only weaklings and losers think it is.

A champions' squad views it as another trophy to be won. 4th place is not a trophy.

There's no denying it has an impact, but with enough depth it can be overcome (as evidenced by Liverpool this season). We quite simply have the numbers, but we don't have depth.

We also don't have many particularly energetic players, which only serves to exacerbate the problem.

Today's defeat had a lot more to do with a very poor team selection and very poor application from the players.

Everton's result today - wow, look where they are in the League lol. Liverpool played two fucking games in it.

Had Liverpool been in it all season they might of struggled a bit more but even still they simply have more strength in depth to cope.

Better squads will cope better with more demands, its just that simple. And we didn't use our squad in such a way so its inevitable that some sort of cumulative fatigue would take its toll.

Its not the only explanation of course, but its certainly a factor when you play that many games.

Was the fact our routine changed with there being no mid week game had an effect on our performance at Manure ?

Thoughts ?

Except that what's the point of aspiring to a top four position and a CL spot if the following season the team will just crash and burn because the team has zero feel for the extra rigours a CL spot brings. EL games should help to bridge that gap - if a team's not good enough to perform in the EL midweek and in the PL at weekends then what's point of hoping to appear in the CL?

The worst part is, when we finally got a good coach who came with the intent to take the Europa League seriously, the fans wanted nothing to do with him. This club totally deserves the mediocre results it keeps getting year after year.

Its a excuse used by so many who think we are to good for the EL and its rubbish, so many myths about extra games and how harder it is to play on a Thursday/Sunday then it is to play Wednesday/ Saturday.

if the league finishes at 29 games, I would take the table standing right now.. no Europa for a season and I want us to win a FA Cup badly while gunning for forth the next season!!!

but the truth of Europa is, it takes a stupidly heavy schedule to win a cup..

Even a blind man can see that playing in Europe on a Thursday night affects your domestic form, and it's not just in England it is throughout Europe.

People can keep their heads in the sand as long as they want but the stats are clear.

And as for the old CL comparison, they play just as much on a Tuesday as they do a Wednesday, they get more money and therefore have deeper squad depth and they play less games in the CL.
