Lots of politics as always with the big super clubs vs UEFA etc. The CL changes sound not needed but this breakaway tournament is pure greed and capitalism and it would start to signal the end for many purist fans. Sport should always be based on merit, the money side of the game has skewed this with financially doping clubs having an unfair advantage if x number of clubs now just automatically always qualified for this new tournament that just defeats the whole point of sport and qualification based on merit.

This idea doesn’t sit well with me at all :(

I really think this would represent the killing of any notion of this being the sport for the working class, it would be going so far that way. My question would be whether the international fans garnered over the last 20 years of the sport are providing a lot more money to these clubs coffers rather than the way clubs are traditionally make money through supporters who supported clubs based on where you live and your family. I think I know the answer to that unfortunately and with that being the case, I can see why a super league is the route they want to go but they're killing so much tradition with this decision imo.

I wonder if this is just an attempt to stop the changes to the CL expanding and also the introduction of the conference league.

I think this will end with the Champions League being adjusted to protect a lot of the names signing up this Super League I imagine.

Everything can be bought in football, and for a sign up fee of two Harry Kanes
Levy would be negligent not to sign up. Don’t mean I like the idea, but when a wave flushes over you you can dive in or be swallowed whole.

It's a disgusting concept, the logical progression of late capitalism.

But aren't you glad we've been invited to the party?!

Imagine the Little Man Syndrome going on here right now (now more than ever) if they'd asked Everton and not us.

I'm joking.

The £350m covid relief money on signing on could cut 1/3 of our debt! We’d be idiots not to sign up! Plus we’re in the conversation with the big boys! All in on that. Makes us more attractive of a prospectIve takeover target too. Please let it happen. Im excited about it.

Perhaps this super league can actually help fight racism in the game too unlike UEFA and not just initiate a 10 month commission on it only to disband it saying racisms over.

Pure greed from the 15 permanent clubs which this super league will benefit. Who would they realistically be and how would they choose them.
We know from England it's Tottenham, Man Utd, Liverpool, Chelsea and Arsenal. In terms of the other 10 I'd assume we have PSG, Munich, Dortmund, Juventus, Inter, AC Milan, Barcelona, Real Madrid, Atletico Madrid, and one other (Leipzig/Lyon/Sevilla/Napoli?)

Only replacing UEFA which needs to be gone anyway. No Europa or Conference for the time being. Still in the league. Works for me. I’m in.

Just need to replace FIFA too and the game will be good to go.
UEFA and FIFA will just be replaced by the another corrupt body....anyone who thinks otherwise is naive to say the least and thick to be blunt

I mean, financially it's probably a no brainer, and we get a seat at the top table. However, it still stinks.

So I'm usually split between my pragmatic views and personal tastes.

Personally, I prefer merit in sport where any team can rise and fall; it's romantic and ties in with historical stories of rising stars and falling empires. So no relegation for the founding members is disagreeable to me.

Pragmatically, however, I'm not overly fussed if Spurs end up in a PL-styled 'Champions League', with no relegation (well, for them). It's all about entertainment and money, and football has been that way for over 20 years now (probably longer) so why moan about it now?

99% of the time the clubs with all the cash win the trophies and everything else is just secondary to that fact.

Sure, the pundits in the media will criticise this move for being a 'money-grab' or similar, but they're the same people who will be lauding Man City and Chelsea for their achievements and not say a word about financial-doping, etc.

That said, if I were one of the PL clubs not involved initially, I would not be happy. It makes it even more difficult to break into the 'Big 6' or whatever we're calling it. I wonder if the other clubs would go on strike, or whether they'll just have to accepted it? It will also be a huge blow for Uefa, but again, they'll probably just have to accept it too.

Instead of the CL, although you can probably wave goodbye to the League Cup and to the FA Cup replays as well to make space.
Ah okay, one of those where if it’s going to happen it might be best to get involved rather than watch from the sideline, but I sincerely hope this does not happen
