Really not a fan of both dier and wanyama together in centre mid. Looked alot better when dele slipped back after Jansen came on.

I'd like us to start with dele next to either one of dier or wanyama, and Jansen start up front with Kane behind him in our next game.

Agree with you, but can't blame Poch for a cautious start. Shows how much we miss Dembele and how much we need another midfielder with the vision to open up defences. Apart from Eriksen we really haven't got anyone else who can do this.
Having said this, a point is a lot better than we normally get for the opening game.

We need a midfielder who can link the holding midfielder to the attacking midfielder(s). A player who will carry the ball between the lines. That takes someone with a good engine; quick feet; good on the ball. To drive the ball forward, beat a player and open things up. Dembele does that better than anyone (recently). Alli is probably the obvious candidate in his absence.

Without someone doing that, it's difficult for the 3 attacking midfielders and striker to find space, when (as here) the other side play 3 centre halves and two defensive mids right in front of them. Just no room centrally.

The alternative would be to try and open them up by playing wide, in behind their wingbacks; but we just don't have the squad/gameplan for that.

In otherwords: we need Dembele back asap and Alli to play that role until then.

Agreed - I seem to remember Alli starting in the midfield alongside Dier when he first started playing regularly at Spurs. He certainly has the aggression needed and can carry the ball when required too; something Wanyama and to a lesser degree Dier don't do so well.

I'm still not a fan of Eriksen starting out wide, and whilst I know the four attackers are supposed to be fairly fluid in their positions, I can't help but feel that this has contributed to Eriksens drop in form. I think he would be much better in the centre and the Striker and two wingers all rotated around Eriksen's central position.

Perhaps with Alli playing as a number 8 and joining in the attacks with the front four would free up time and space for Eriksen
