Mauricio Pochettino: "It was a great game, very entertaining, but my feeling is I am pleased for the effort but at the same time the feeling is we dropped two points.

"The first half was one of the best 45 minutes we have played so far, but we were a bit unlucky that Everton scored.

"Our mentality is strong, we are ambitious. Goodison is a very tough place to come, Everton are a tough team. We need to feel proud. We always try and win the game, sometimes in football it is not possible."

Totally agree

IMO Carroll needs to go back on the bench until his passing and tackling improve

watched the game on sky and thought it was a good game and first half was top draw.

There was no way everton was going to come out in the 2nd half and sit back and take more of a beating ......But overall IMHO we deserved more than a draw.
What i found myself doing though was slipping back into old spurs mode thinking were going to lose this,or every cross into the box thinking their going to score.....THEN i had to think hang on ....were the new and improve spurs and toby and verts have got any cross coming into the box covered and if anyone is going to win we are !!!

Was really pleased with how we pressed throughout the game, specially first half ...everton couldn't cope.
2nd half they played better but we still show the grit and steel and the belief to go on and win the game.
Thought everyone played well inc carroll ....considering hes not first choice but he tried his hardest to battle when needed ( not his strong point ) but he also did some nice passes and didn't look out of place....

Overall a draw away from home is decent ,but guess the players will be thinking 2 pts dropped ....But were still on course for top 4 finish, but i strongly believe were still in the title race!!

News update :
"Jamie Vardy will be out of action for up to 10 days with the Leicester striker needing minor surgery on a groin problem."

Great timing for us :)

For the third game in a row, we had to rely on some extraordinary saves from Lloris in the final 10 minutes or so. Could it be that all the pressings were taking their toll and we were tiring in the last quarter of the game? Wonder why Mason is not even on the bench today. He might have provided the extra energy were he to come in for Carroll.

Agree with your post and also wanted to quote this, was a different Carroll than the one against Newcastle.

I thought Carroll played as well I expected.

You have to take into account that it was his fourth PL game this season and you can't judge a player until he's had a proper run of games.

I felt he played well in the majority of the game, he made some sloppy passes at times but a lot of players did.

He will improve and I hope while Dembele's out he continues to play unless his performances digress.

I missed the Newcastle so didn't see him ....but was pleased with him against everton thats for sure.....yes there was some areas he could be better in but for his age, lack of game time and the way poch demands our players to play i thought he did very well.
Would say with the way we play a pairing of Dier and Moussa would be better because that both break up play, protect our back line and can keep the ball very well ....playing Caroll with one of them would be better suited at a home game....but ideally as a replacement for Eriksen later in a game or to rest him.

Overall a very good decent squad player thats young, hungry, willing to learn the Poch way and believes in himself.

What a great first half, not forgetting that we hit the post and the bar, both hit the inside and under side and could have quite easily have gone in, had they done so it would have been a different game.

I feel that Eriksen either needs a rest or has to up his work rate without the ball, for their goal he lost the ball then just walked towards their player, if he had been quicker he would have closed him down and stopped, or at least hurried, the cross. The one thing that did my head in more than that was the way Verts turned his back on Lennons shot, that was really poor, he could have taken a hit and blocked it for sure.

I see a lot of negativity towards Carroll, my take on it is this, he is a bright young lad who can obviously play football, i noticed that he sometimes plays the ball to early when he has a lot of space around him, something he will learn with more games, the thing that lets him down, and its no fault of his own, is his physique, time and time again he was side by side trying to tackle but was far to easily brushed off as if he wasnt there. This may be the defining factor on weather he makes it with us or not but the lad can deffo play.

Finally, Martinez made the two substitutions and changed the game in to their favour, Poch didnt have anything to come back at him with apart from the usual Son on and someone off so at that point i think we were all grateful to take a point from a good solid side that we could have (arguably) been 3 nil up on at half time.

watched the game late yesterday - couple of thoughts:
1. first 45 mins was fantastic - deserved to be 3-4 goals up
2. Carroll really good for about 65 mins including racing back and robbing Lukaku...he tired a bit and would have probably taken him off around the 65 min mark but a good performance - singled out for praise by various commentators here in the US (Le Saux, Mustoe).
3. A match fit Nabil, Mason, Chadli would have been useful and of course missed Dembele

Tom Carroll could be as good as a new signing for Tottenham after forcing his way into Mauricio Pochettino's first-team plans over the Christmas period.
The 23-year-old academy product, who like many of Spurs youngsters has had to keep going on loan to develop his career, played a full 90 minutes for Spurs in the Premier League for the first time in his career in the 1-1 draw at Everton.
He hit the most accurate forward-half passes (48) and created four chances.

I'm on a roll with my Carroll singing.

I know he missed a few key passes but have to point out Carrols passing accuracy was statistically the best on the pitch (us and Everton). Perhaps try not to stigmatize him as a poor passer as that's one of his strong points.

Carroll played well it's only when our team tired he looked a bit light weight but so did Son to be fair we needed a few fresh legs and so e muscle brought on. His a great option to have as he plays the ball quickly his is the opposite to dembele in a good way.

I'm surprised no-one mentioned Lamela typical slow paced, ball losing, bad tackling performance over the weekend. I'm still not convinced he is suited to the prem and am still not a massive fan. If we could get back half the money we paid for him, i'd take it.

He should have come off for Son after about 60/65 mins.
