If winks started instead of sissoko wpuld have been happy

Zero creativity at all except for eriksen and dele in flashes

Thing is though you'd probably be happy with Dembele too, I assume? He doesn't exactly provide a great deal of creativity. Lack of creativity can be a problem for us regardless of who we have starting IMO and although Winks can potentially help, it's not like all those worries are diminished with his presence.

I wouldn't mind seeing Eriksen playing a slightly withdrawn role, almost alongside Dier, allowing Sissoko to push forward. He'd have various options ahead of him.
If David Silva can play in the middle for City, there is no reason why Ericksen couldn't.

I don't think we should ever be playing this formation with Trippier & Davies as wingbacks. Especially against the better sides. They simply don't provide the width needed. Hope I'm wrong.

Quite curious to see Sissoko given a go in the middle. He just doesn't look comfortable getting paint on his boots.

Going to be a real battle in the centre with Dier and him up against Gueye and Schneiderlin.
I expect the Gueye-Schneiderlin midfield to run rings around Dier and Sissoko, but maybe Poch is playing Sissoko for his athleticism in an attempt to win the physical battle. I worry about him giving the ball away cheaply in dangerous areas.

BBC seem to think it's Sanchez as the middle CB, Alli alongside Dier in front and Sissoko right.

Wouldn't be against this, I actually think Dele deeper as a number 8 would be effective, he'd still ghost forward but his energy and aggression would be useful. He started there for us to.

Also, Sanchez should be the middle centre back, he's the quickest and the other two have the vision to pass incisively down the channels. On the ball we will look like this I imagine:

Lloris
Alderweireld Sanchez Vertonghen
Dier
Trippier Sissoko Eriksen Dele Davies
Kane

Am I the only one that wants Sissoko to do well? He's been played out of position for years. For Toulouse and early years at Newcastle he was a beast in central midfield. Managers trying to turn him into some right winger has completely fucked him up. His technique and his entire game has suffered because of that. There is a player in there and it's in central midfield. Just hope that's where he's playing today.

I don't understand the optimism for Sissoko here, I understand most of it is probably wishful thinking and trying to be positive/supportive but nothing he has done for either Newcastle or us so far has shown that he is even a half decent player, let alone one that should be starting for a team that hopes to challenge for the PL.

I mean, like many of you, I hope the turning point is today and he turns into some sort of amazing beast of a player but being realistic here, can anybody truly see that happening? Even the biggest optimist here must be worried at the thought of how many minutes he is getting at the moment based on his performances so far for us since signing? If anything it is just showing we really lack depth in that area.

Surely you don't lose your first touch and control simply by being played out of position. The ball is the same wherever you receive it.

I think everyone wants him to do well, the question is, CAN he do well.

Actually, I think we may be setting up like this. Bielsa style 3-3-3-1.
Lloris
Sanchez Alderweild Vertongen
Trippier Dier Davies
Sissoko Alli Eriksen
Kane

Atleast dembele can beat a player with so much ease

I hope you're right. Poch must have seen an improvement in training; that's his way.

Also everyone was saying Sissoko did well against Burnley. He's not a bad player but he's had a bad time.

That said, I do worry about a lack of skill in midfield. Dembele glides past players and opens up space; he's pivotal to our play. So Sissoko has to make up for that loss.

All those people who think Sissoko is a central midfielder can finally be proved wrong today. That's the only enjoyment I'll get out of seeing Sissoko start in there today.

I just hope he doesn't have an absolute stinker.

We will never do well for us if he keeps playing as an attacking right midfielder.
If we're going to play him, play him in central midfield. If given a real chance in that position I think he would surprise a few fans.
Unfortunately I think some will never give him any chance.
