It seems pretty clear the issue in our team is not Conte's set up, it is the midfield quality. In games where Hojbjerg and Winks play okay, or when we set up to simply bypass the midfield (like we did at the weekend and at City) we look so much better. But when those two play like they have today, we look league one at best because the opposite team just has full control of the middle of the park.

On top of defensive frailty, they are also incapable of passing forward. So often tonight Kulu, Son, Kane - and most of all Sessegnon - were making brilliant runs behind defenders and Hojbjerg/Winks just turned and played the safe ball to Dier or Romero. No wonder the attackers get tired and frustrated.

It's not Conte's fault that we just have no quality there, it's a problem that has built over years. And it's also not as simple as playing a 3 either. You could have 5 midfielders in there, but if they turn the ball over or get caught out as easily as they have tonight, the other team will always have control. Need a full overhaul in the middle ASAP.
How is it not Conte's set up when we have better players than Middlesborough all over the pitch yet cannot dominate the game. We sat back passively in a mid block all game and its pathetic. Where is the structured high press for games like this.

Why on earth are we sitting back and looking to hit a championship side on the break? Yes the squad has weaknesses but ffs, It's Middlesboro.

I agree. Awful management. Again. It was like watching us under Mourinho and nuno

Whisper it quietly, but maybe Conte isn’t quite as good as he thinks he is?

Was a poor way to go into a game like this. We were slow and ponderous from the first minute. Never looked like taking that game by the scruff of the neck and winning it.

I’m fully Conte in but please don’t defend him tonight. He deserves to be criticised, if that was Nuno or Mourinho with those tactics against a Championship opponent today they would’ve been slaughtered by the fanbase

Yes the players needs to fix up we all already knew it. But Conte also needs to step up

Not a great night, is he just being stubborn? It wasn’t working tonight and somehow our front 3 barely got a sniff.

Lets be honest, if someone said Mourinho was still our manager, you wouldn’t be surprised in the slightest.

Negative, shit football. He isn’t coming close to justifying the comments he makes about how shit we are when we’re paying him nearly half a million a week to serve up that bullshit.

Was atrocious from start to finish. From 5 at the back to 4 at the back to five at the back and then back to 4 at the back was frankly embarrassing. Yes the players are a shower of shit all over the pitch, but Conte has to take equal measures of the blame.

Can we criticise him for poor in-game tactics, decisions and subs?

PEH has done well next to better partners. He can also defend. Sure I wouldn't start him but he will be a valuable squad player. Winks on the other hand...
Totally agree - terrible recruitment for years. Winks is shocking fact we even need to play him says it all

I genuinely think there is a big issue with his refusal to rotate players. Kulusevski look really tired and Son looked off the pace. Yes the alternatives aren't of the same level but we lacked energy from the get go.

Stop this madness. It's fucking Middlesborough, not Bayern Munich. However shit our midfield is (and it IS unbelievably shit), you can't tell we don't hav players good enough to beat Middlesborough. Conte is underperforming, simple as.
