We’ve been here before. Brinkmanship is a normal part of contract negotiations.
Agreed. I simply dont buy the idea that there is "no money" when clearly we were willing to front up a large chunk of cash for a LCB and an AM but didn't get them for reasons beyond our control. 0% chance Levy and Paratici are just going to let Conte walk as that means Kane, Son and Richarlison..possibly Romero all wanting to leave also

Unless anyone can get behind the paywall (I can't), I speculate this article does not actually point to a 'breakdown'. The headline itself is a 'change in signals'. I listened to a podcast with Jack Pitt-Brooke this morning was recorded yesterday, and he was saying at that point that there will be a bit of game playing for Conte to get what he wants out of the deal, and we will hear stories of things going one way or the other, but overall there is no reason for fans to be concerned yet. Perhaps this is just a rewording of that concept?

Edit: Pitt-Brooke's own tweets seem to be tempering it

What gibberish is this "tie Conte to Spurs for next season" ? If Conte is not happy he will walk regardless of what his contract says !

It’s a shame this couldn’t have been dealt with a month ago, and not 5 days before the season resumes after a very long break.
Conte wouldn’t have wanted to deal with it a month ago. He likes to link his commitment to a club with evidence of investment in big players during transfer windows.

Well yes, other than we were told contract talks had broken down on this site a few weeks ago. So that news is now leaking from the club to journalists.
or it could just be that the journo's have picked it up from here and put it into an article for clicks now the world cup is done

About five minutes after the World Cup final this guy was casting aspersions at Romero... rather than celebrating another Spurs player to win the World Cup...

About five minutes after people have wrapped up their coverage of the World Cup he dives straight into the negative Conte stuff.

Maybe all isn't rosy at the mo, but people do also seem to enjoy getting their kicks in early these days...

?

EDIT: Oh, appears to have legs... ???

Well I didn't know so I asked Google......

Here is the full list of former players who have won trophies elsewhere since 2008:

  • Dimitar Berbatov: 3x EPL, 1x Club World Cup, 1x League Cup
  • Robbie Keane: 3x MLS Cup, 1x MLS Supporter’s Shield
  • Teemu Tainio: 1x Eredivisie, 2x Finnish League, 1x Finnish Cup
  • Young-pyo Lee: 2x Saudi Arabian League.
  • Kevin-Prince Boateng: 1x La Liga, 1x Serie A, 1x German Cup
  • Hossam Ghaly: 4x Egyptian League, 1x Egyptian Cup, 1x CAF Champions League, 1x CAF Confederation Cup
  • Adel Taarabt : 1x Portuguese League, 1x Portuguese Super Cup
  • Tomas Pekhart: 1x Czech League, 2x Polish League, 1x Israeli League, 1x Greek Cup
  • Didier Zokora: 1x Spanish Cup
  • Kyle Walker: 3x EPL, 1x FA Cup, 4x League Cup, 2x English Super Cup
  • Paul-José Mpoku: 1x Belgian Cup
  • Bongani Khumalo: 4x South African League, 1x South African Cup

  • Roman Pavlyuchenko: 1x Russian Cup
  • Vedran Ćorluka: 1x Russian League, 4x Russian Cup, 1x Russian Super Cup
  • Simon Dawkins: 1x MLS Supporter's Shield

  • Jermain Defoe: 1x Scottish League
  • Clint Dempsey: 1x MLS Cup, 1x MLS Supporter's Shield, 1x US Open Cup
  • Tomislav Gomelt: 1x Romanian Cup
  • Paulinho: 1x Spanish League, 1x Spanish Cup, 4x Chinese League, 1x Chinese Cup, 2x Chinese Super Cup, 1x AFC CL
  • Benjamin Stambouli: 1x French League, 1x French Cup, 1x French League Cup, 2x French Super Cup
  • Federico Fazio: 1x Europa League
  • Vincent Janssen: 1x Mexican League
  • Georges-Kevin N'Koudou: 1x Turkish League
  • Christian Eriksen: 1x Italian League
  • Fernando Llorente: 1x Italian Cup

Let's remove the tin pot leagues like Mexico, Saudi Arabia, Russia, Turkey etc. and only count the big 5 leagues / cups and European cups. Other than the players I named (Bale, Modric, Berbatov, Walker etc.) only a handful have actually gone on to win something significant.
  • Paulinho: 1x Spanish League, 1x Spanish Cup
  • Kevin-Prince Boateng: 1x La Liga, 1x Serie A, 1x German Cup
  • Benjamin Stambouli: 1x French League, 1x French Cup, 1x French League Cup, 2x French Super Cup
  • Federico Fazio: 1x Europa League
  • Christian Eriksen: 1x Italian League
  • Fernando Llorente: 1x Italian Cup
A lot more players have left us and won nothing significant.

IF this is true then this comes down to what Conte’s spending demands are. If he wants £200m net spent every single window for example then he’s living in fantasy land.

However if Levy is saying we can’t even spend £70-£120m most windows then he’s to blame. With the revenues we now have and the fact our stadium repayments are so low, we should easily be able to spend pretty good amounts every window.

Look at Scum, they are spending huge amounts every window and our revenue is higher!

That is straight out of the Levy PR Book.

Levy will say: “We did all we could to keep Conte by triggering the club option. It’s not my fault he walked away…”

It's all very complicated right now and goes much deeper than just Conte v Levy. There is money available, not masses but enough to keep Conte happy, but how that money is spent is where the problem lies.

As of right now I wouldn't be surprised to see any of..........
Conte saying fuck it and walking.
Levy giving in and backing him under pressure from VL
Levy being replaced as far as dealing with the football side of things are concerned

What I don't see is them finding a compromise. Conte wants what he wants, and he certainly has VL's attention. What is unclear to everyone I've spoken to is what is VL's real time position in all of this, and what her end game actually is.

Is VL joe lewis' daughter? Has she actually taken over from JL?
