Mercenary. But meh.

Cesc Fabregas wants a decision on his future before the World Cup after admitting he wants to return to Barcelona.

The Gooners captain has grown increasingly frustrated at the club’s lack of silverware over the last five years.

His unhappiness has attracted big-money approaches from Real Madrid and Manchester City which he has flatly turned down.

But now he wants manager Arsene W**ger to prove he is serious about winning trophies immediately by splashing cash in the transfer market on proven players - or he will seek a move to his his boyhood club.

Fabregas will join up with the Spain squad on May 24 before the big kick-off on June 11 and said: “I want to make a decision about my future before the start of the World Cup.

“It’s impossible to perform at a tournament like the World Cup if you’re not fully focused on the sporting aspects of the game. I don’t want to be distracted by transfer talk.”

Fabregas, who is under contract until 2014, also claimed he was “very happy” at Gooners and “in no hurry to leave the club”.

But the former Barcelona youth player, who is back in Spain working on his fitness, has given a series of interviews talking about moving back to the Nou Camp.

While Gooners have not won a trophy since 2005, Barcelona can retain the Spanish title this week.

And speaking on camera at a fun park near Salou, Fabregas admitted his jealousy.

“You see your colleagues triumph here and the desire is tremendous because we have worked together many years ago,” he said. “When you see that things are going so well for them, I think I would like to go to Barcelona. Then if they want me or not is another thing. It’s what I want and what I would like.”

Fabregas’ comments were last night welcomed by Barca president Joan Laporta.

“Any player that wants to come to Barca should show commitment to the club and that commitment can come in many forms, not just by showing a desire to play for the club, to play alongside world-class players, of his history as a fan, but also by explaining why he wants to play for Barca and only for Barca,” he said.

I've always thought that as soon as Barca make an official move for him, he will join. I hope this happens this summer. We're really closing in on Arsenal now, and this would be a big loss to them. Even if they get Toure as part of the deal, he isn't a creative player like Fabregas. They will no doubt miss him.

If Barca deliver on their promise of Villa and Fabregas, Barca really will be a force again next season.

If he goes race for 3rd is definitely on. Although Toure, and Arteta from Everton would be a handy couple of replacements.

If Fabregas leaves I wonder if anyone else might follow aswell. Maybe Arshavin? He's the sort of player who isn't afraid to kick up a fuss. If they lose one of their best players, the pressure will be on them to sign at least another world class player. I'm not sure more young prospects are going to be enough. Surely some of their players are getting fed up with the lack of trophies by now.

Trouble is, no one would want Arshavin.

Well, actually, that was perhaps a little harsh. What I meant was that no club that Arshavin would want to go to - ie Barcelona, would want him.

How does wanting to move back to Barcelona make him a mercenary? What an idiotic comment to make.

Arsenal would miss him, but not enough to see them dropping out of the top four any time soon. Ramsey is capable of proving a more than adequate replacement.

I'm guessing barca would offer yaya toure plus 30m for him. With that money wenger could easily find suitable replacements

He might find suitable talents, but Fabregas is the heartbeat that is holding together what is already a very brittle dressing room, as was clear by the way they only won 1 game after his injury against Barca. Losing him now may mean they won't win anything for another 5 years....Oh well

He created more goal scoring chances than any other player in the EPL this season, plus 15 goals and 16 assists, he would be a massive loss for Woolwich. I can't see him going till next summer though, hopefully I'm wrong.

Could hurt them like Alonso hurt Liverpool. I'd love to see Fabregas at Barcelona because he is an amazing talent and is wasted at Arsenal!

Maybe we should do a cheeky bid?

The moment Xavi isn't good enough is the moment Fabregas leaves Arsenal. He's contracted till 2014, Xavi will be 34 then, so Fabregas will leave Arsenal after the EURO's in 2012

Barca want him now though. They can still fit Iniesta, Xavi and Fabregas in the same team. Iniesta is versatile enough for that to work. He'll play a fair number of games on the left anyway. Iniesta has also had his share of injuries the past couple of seasons, and that hasn't helped Barca this season especially. So getting Fabregs now would make sense. They play plenty of games and Pep loves to rotate players anyway.

As soon as Barca get the green light from Cescs' people, they'll make their move and sign him up pretty swiftly. I do think it will happen in this window before the World Cup.

Cesc Fabregas is understood to have told Arsene Wenger he wants to leave Arsenal in order to rejoin Barcelona as president Joan Laporta hints at making a bid.

Writing in Spanish newspaper AS, Guillem Balague has revealed that Fabregas has flown in to London from Barcelona to discuss his future at Emirates Stadium with Wenger.

Fabregas recently revealed that he does want to play for former club Barca one day and is keen for his future to be resolved before representing Spain at the World Cup finals.

It now appears that the midfielder is ready to ask for permission to join the newly-crowned Primera Liga champions next season and a fee is likely to be in the region of £30-35million.

Meanwhile, Barcelona president Laporta has suggested it may be the right time to bid for the 23-year-old following Fabregas' comments at a promotional event last week.

The Arsenal captain, who was plucked from Barca's youth ranks in 2003, had said, 'I think I would like to go to Barcelona, whether or not they want me is another thing'.

Laporta was surprised by Fabregas' frankness and reckons it is worth considering a move for the influential midfielder.

"It is remarkable that the player has said that," he told the club's official website.

"If the technical secretary [Txiki Begiristain] believes we must make an effort, we will do and will talk to Arsenal."
