Just been thinking about it and with all the negativity surrounding our director of football he has done a number of good things.

1.Built for the future(the following is impressive):
------------------------Alnwick---------------------------

----Gunter--------Kaboul-------Dervitte------Bale---------

---Taarabt-------Boateng-----Huddletone----O'Hara-------

-----------------Perkhart-----?????????-------------------

Not quite finished yet but certaintly alot of very impressive young talent there.

2.He pretty much got Ramos in and as much as I liked Jol that was the best decesion to take the club forward and Commoli has done well with that.

3.Made some impressive signings(especially recently):
Hutton-solid and young
Woodgate-solid
Bale-Fantastic signing
Berbatov-AMAZING SIGNING!
Gunter-looks a talent
Kaboul-trust me will come good french u-21 captain aswell
Boateng-German under 21 international

so for all the criticisms we have of our Damien he must be credited for the good things he's done for our club in moving us forward.

The above team would struggle in the championship.

And how many of these kind of threads are we going to have on Spurs chat?

I doubt that actually, would struggle in the prem no doubt but it'd do well in the championship and it is a massively young team with bags and bags of potentiol and even a fair bit of international experience and so building for the future wise he is doing well, it isn't even finished yet, I'd like to think we'll bring in a young CM,LM and ST i.e under 18 but fairly talented and with great potentiol and once we've done that, it'd make a fantastic team for the future.

Give him all the credit you like but hasn't Berbatov said we were chasing him before Commoli joined?

He didn't sign Huddlestone and O'Hara and I'm not sure about Dervitte.

Having said that, I think he's doing a good job and was the instigator of replacing Jol with Ramos.

Yeah, we have struggled in the "prem" this season, and thankfully for us, we've had Berbatov and Keane's goals to bail us out.

when you say he HAS built a team for the future, you mean he has got players who might make it good enough to stil be playing for us in the future  as we havnt really got a clue if half of them will make the step and and be any good

This is almost as over top as the threads proclaiming that Comolli is the devil incarnate.

All you have done is attributed every percieved success down to Comolli when you probably don't actually know the extent to his involvement in each individual transfer. Are you not also forgetting the massive scouting network that does all the work for Comolli.

Now while I am sure he played his part in the signing to these players he is hardly the driving force behind what we have done as a club. Also we don't know how the dynamic has changed since Ramos arrived in respect to transfer decisions and targets.

I know he didn't sign hudd and O'hara but that's besides the point he signed the majority of that team not to mention a number of even younger players who we don't really know about so he is trying to build for the future aswell.

OK - I get it, another April Fools thread.

Title: "Fair Play to Commoli".

Content: praising Commoli for signing lots of players he didn't sign.

Aka surrealist humour.

O'hara is a championship player at best - can't you see that?

O'Hara is ok with a sweet left foot but I have to agree that I don't think his up to the job .

O'Hara was recruited by Pleat, as he seldom misses the opportunity to remind us. And Huddlestone was lined up by Arnesen.

Both Pleat and Arnesen had an eye for a bargain. Okay the both brought in a lot of dross, Arnesen especially, but they were cheap punts. They also recruited players who could make an instant impact, often at negligible cost, Not necessarily top draw quality, but meeting immediate needs.

Comolli has spent a lot of money, and not necessarily wisely. I actually suspect we will end up making a loss on players such as Kaboul and Bent. Few of Comolli's signings have made an immediate impact, Bale being the shining exception, and he has failed to build a balanced, effective squad. I expect Ramos to be the major influence on transfer dealings going forward.

Also, leaving aside the Championship-struggling team, to address this:

"Made some impressive signings":

Hutton – £8m, and Man U were linked with him too
Woodgate – £7m, a well-known quantity
Bale – £10m, many clubs interested inc Man U
Berbatov- – £10.9m, well-known quantity, linked with other clubs
Kaboul – £8m
Boateng – £5m

What I'm saying is, all of these were either well-known quantities or pretty pricey players for what they've done so far. From your list, Gunter was the only one I'd say was any kind of 'find' and he's the one who's had least time on the pitch.

Commoli hasn't really uncovered anyone particularly special on the cheap, like a Toure or wotnot. We've paid top dollar for mostly recognisable names, and occasionally top dollar for guys we've never heard of and have yet to prove why we should have. I'm not trying to be too down on the guy, but I'm not quite sure why anyone would be particularly impressed. Going, "Let's throw a load of money at that guy," to my mind, isn't excelling in his role.

I personally think it's a mixed bag on Comolli. He's brought in a couple of gems (e.g. Bale and Hutton) but made some poor calls (£16.5M for Bent).

I think it's very harsh to say that the scouting network does all the work. Comolli is responsible for them and their results. That's what senior management means. You employ, manage and live & die by the results of your underlings.

As to the team of the future, well of course it's a work-in-progress and there will be comings and goings. We'll challenge the top 4 next season I have no doubt. That is down to the hiring of Ramos (amongst other things) which Levy said was what Comilli will be judged on. We also have a pretty decent team-for-the-future production line in place.

As to transfer policy (and I've banged on about this before), they say it's a committee and I believe them. I think Ramos has more input and more of a veto role than Jol did but Levy believes in the DoF structure and isn't going to walk away from it lightly.

As I say, it's a mixed bag on DC but I don't think he's done that badly. It's also often hard to truly attribute "whose" signing any player was so we often make judgements without much insight.

I think it has been a poor show so far. Arneson with the same money would have us top 4 IMO.

Commoli has definitely been hit or miss.

Berbatov will always be his get out of jail card. Zokora, has been a major disappointment, and the same can be said for Kaboul and BAE. The club over paid for Bent, but this was a contingency plan, as they obviously thought that they will not be able to hold on to Berbatov...

No, they were convinced they'd offload Defoe in the summer.
