I was at the game sunday and yes it was a great atmosphere but what is getting at me is the criticism Townsend is receiving.
Lennon had a great game and I am a believer that Townsend could play on the left, but all I hear is fans moaning everything he doesn't manage to beat both defenders who are intensely marking him,
For England he has been immense and before Sunday our best player and he has created many chances but unfortunately have not been finished. All his mazy runs will not come off but he is dangerous and if he doesn't try them they won't come off,
My point is let's get behind our most potential home grown player in decades and remember he is young and is learning every game.
If we get on his back every game his confidence will go and he won't become that amazing player he has the potential to be,
So let's get behind him and stop using him as a scapegoat and moaning about him,. He is yid through and through

The first run Townsend done on Sunday ended with him cutting back and losing the ball. Same old same old.

p.s I don't mind him by the way

I think he lost the ball nearly every time he received it.

Looks a different player with an England shirt on, but I'm just calling it how I see it. Want him to do well though, obviously.

Yes I agree Sunday he wasn't at his best but I think his confidence is being affected due to the fans

I was quite excited when I saw him coming on. Thinking he could have a go at an ageing and tiring Evra and possibly open up some space to grab the winner.

Sadly he was shit.

I really didn't like the booing when he came on for Lennon though. It's obvious that it wasn't aimed at him, but it's not going to help his confidence when he's standing on the touchline and all you hear is boos when you're coming on to the pitch.

I said a few months ago that Andros Townsend would only reach his full potential as a player if he had the full backing of the fans.
I was shocked by the reaction of the fans when he was coming on to replace Aaron Lennon on Sunday.
This young guy isn't from the other side of the world who couldn't give a shit about Spurs and is only here for the dough.
He is one of us..........how bad must he feel when fellow Spurs fans reacted like that.
Fucking disgrace and the fans should be ashamed of themselves.

I think he is handy to have in the squad and I dont get some of the criticism aimed at him by some fans.
But then its the same for most of our players.

Still work to be done with him, but will be great to have players like Townsend, Lamela, Eriksen and even the likes of Carroll and maybe Kane coming through as the next wave of yids

Surely they were booing the decision to take off Lennon, not actually booing Townsend.

From what I could see it was more the fans booing (never acceptable) AVB's choice of Lennon coming off, not booing Townsend.

If the lad sees it as that, then fair enough - it wasn't that he was coming on, it was that Lennon was coming off (and that he is pretty much Evra's Kryptonite).

Even though I thought Lennon did more than Chadli I thought the booing for that sub was way over the top, it's not like Lennon had scored a hat-trick or something and was also pretty quiet second half. Must have been hard for Andros to come on to those boos even though they weren't aimed at him but that's enough to kill your confidence.

Personally if I was a young player that had been at the club most of my life and then I'm standing on the touchline waiting to come on, and all i'm hearing is boos from my home crowd, I'd probably be crying inside.

They just couldn't be right I'm afraid, because I remember distinctly....he lost the ball a lot more than once, and I don't need stats to support that, I witnessed it with my own eyes. Maybe the confusion here is the move breaking down as opposed to a misplaced pass as such.

That being said, I do hope he does well for us - of course I do, and he is a talent that is still learning and that should be remembered.

Those are the passes. The amount of bad touches and failed dribbles was a lot higher.

AVB is ruining him by playing him on the right week in week out. Play him on the left where he will be naturally inclined to bend his runs behind the defence instead of cutting inside infront of them.

Yep, that's what it was, and surely he would realise it was that and not for the fact he was coming on.

Unless he comes on here often to see what us as fans are saying, I can't see how we have been negative towards him and he would know of negativity towards him.

Whenever he gets the ball, there's always an ahhhh and fans stand up, at the anticipation and prospect that he is going to do something.

I'd love to see him on the left....taking on his man and fizzing some crosses into the box, as opposed to on the right.

Could see Soldado getting more service.

I remember him playing on the left a few times a few years back. He cut in and shot with his right a lot.

To be fair he did score a few belters.

Been saying that for a while, he should be on the left and learn his trade as an out and out winger, like bale did, before adapting his game to an inverted winger or in the centre.

Would like to see Townsend on the left, Lennon on the right and Lamela in the centre behind Soldado.

I think its more to do with the World Cup personally. It seems to me Townsend believes unless he does something special every week, he wont be included.

He needs to concentrate on being a team player first instead of our new Bale.
