Ferguson renews winter break call
Sir Alex Ferguson has renewed his call for England to adopt a winter break.
"Managers have always voiced their opinions in favour of a winter break," said the Manchester United boss, arguing a break would lessen injuries.
"The trouble is players carry their strains right through January, then when you get to March it turns into an injury of significance."
Ferguson would like to see any winter break scheduled between the New Year Day games and the end of January.

"You don't want to lose that impact of getting people into the grounds over the Christmas period," added Ferguson, speaking ahead of United's FA Cup fourth round match against Tottenham.
"But we could re-start with an FA Cup tie, which would add a bit of excitement to it after a winter break. That is what they do in Germany."
Ferguson pointed to the shutdown of the Bundesliga in January as a reason why the German national team has been so successful.

"Germany always do well in the World Cup," said Ferguson. "I don't want to be critical of them because I admire what they have achieved in international football.
"Even one of their poorest teams by their standards have got to the later stages of the World Cup.
"There must be some link to that freshness and fitness."

I actually agree with SAF on this one. Not only is it important on the injury front but would also give managers time to work the January transfer market without the constant games.

Man United and the other three would only use this break to play a multi-million pound exhibition match somewhere in Asia or the States. Good idea in principle but I can't see it happening.
