'If you can assemble a team of 11 talented players who concentrate intently during training sessions, take care of their diet and bodies, get enough sleep and show up on time then you're almost half way to winning a Trophy'

Brilliant quote I read in Alex Fergusons new book 'leading', he then goes on to say how remarkable it is that many teams don't even do this.

This led me to think that there are certainly some similarities between Fergie and Potch with regards to discipline, work ethic and attitude of their squads and the way Potch has/is transforming us.

Now I'm not for a minute suggesting we're about to embark on a 25yr period of English and European dominance, this is after all a Tottenham Hotpsur who haven't won't the league for over 60years!

However it is very refreshing to see this current squad we have all pulling together in the right direction, players with poor attitudes are shipped out or punished (Adebeyor,Townsend etc) and as Fergie says these important basics take you half way to winning trophies and are probably basics no Spurs squad has actually had for the last 30 or so years.

Fergie and Gary Neville have said on countless occasions that they prepared for other teams but for Tottenham they just knew we'd always have a few talented players but we're ultimately 'soft' so had us beaten already, their team talk would be 'C'mon guys this is Tottenham LOL' and then go out and hammer us.

That Tottenham is no more under Potch, also as Gary Nev has pointed out on a sky sports review earlier this season.

Just sayin.

COYS! The future is bright.

Phew, I was worried they were poaching him now too.

Good points, well made. Amazing how often common sense is overlooked!

With a few shrewd and clever purchases to reinforce the squad and provide better cover then I honestly think anything is possible with this squad...on the proviso we can hang on to Poch.

We are seeing this season more than ever before that the gap between the traditional big 4 and the rest is smaller than ever. Money is no longer a guarantee for success in this league. We still lack a killer instinct, something Fergies teams excelled at, as seen by the annoying amount of draws we have got. We work very hard and I'm also a little concerned that this will take its toll in the second half of the season. The ability to rotate a couple of key players within the spine of the team with players of nearly equal quality would make such a difference. That, of course, can create problems with individuals who want to be playing so Poch would need to show he can manage that situation well.

But all in all we are genuinely only a few cogs away from having the complete package in my opinion.

Spot on mate!!! A back-up striker a few slight improvements in certain departments and that killer instinct/mentality and we will be a top top side.

+ obviously holding onto Potch and the big hitters: Hugo,Jan,Toby,Eriksen,Kane

But with this development and potential I don't see why they leave, however it is almost imperative we capitalise on this season and come at least 4th.

Yes, that is a nice quote, and now that United are rubbish I'm rather enjoying the comparisons with their former, glorious manifestation.

The great thing now is having so many players who can consider themselves to be in the top bracket and within that some young enough but good enough to aspire to be world class.

So you mentioned a few there but I doubt that Walker, Lamela, Alli, Son, Rose, Dembele don't consider themselves part of that group and those who aren't are primarily still kids who will want to be. What a great position to be in.

Agree it's very important for this group to take advantage of the current situation. Long run we will still be fine with the new stadium and our setup but we can really hit the new stadium running if this group can stay together and CL would be a big factor

Slightly easier for Ferguson to assemble 11 talent players when you pay the most and always challenging for honours. We can assemble a very talent squad , but as we don't pay the most or rarely win silverware. This talent is constantly poached by the teams that do pay the most and challenge for silverware. The challenge is to start to win things, This will be a key factor in retaining players. Money is obviously important, as this is why City picked up the world class talent. Do you really thing Aguero is in Manchester for the culture, weather and culinary delights.. No its money, money and money..
