At least we know what's holding things up. CPO by the sounds of it.
My eyes have seen the glory of the positive excel spreadsheet at White Hart Lane
And the Spurs are in the black!
At least we know what's holding things up. CPO by the sounds of it.
That and the fact that we don't have the finance in place... and we haven't got a contractor... and we're looking at changing the stadium plans....
Would be staggered if we open the stadium in the summer of 2017.
Of course you are right it was actually 2007. The preferred stadium option would have been been announced in the first half of 2008 but was delayed until the Autumn of that year.Project 'new stadium' wasn't thought of in October 2008 though was it?
Couple of bits from this.
1. Filling the stadium.
Will we fill 58k every week? Almost certainly not. Will we get the huge new number of season ticket holders they want? Almost certainly not. But - a lot will depend on the circumstances we find ourselves in when the stadium opens.
If ticket prices increase, the attendance is unlikely to go up by as much as they want. If the club is sensible, and introduces a wider range of ticket prices, meaning yes season tickets do go up but tickets on general sale are much more varied (especially becoming cheaper the nearer to matchday, and cheaper for kids/oap's etc), then we will probably fill it or just about most of the time. If the cheapest ticket to see fucking Sunderland or someone is £50 then people will rightly tell them to stick it.
Also, and this is important, a lot of the empty seats at the Lane this season are thanks to fucking StubHub. The system where you could re-sell your season ticket to the club at value and they could sell your seat worked well. Introducing a system designed to track how much fans were willing to be ripped off by other fans was a cynical disaster. I've only been to 4 games this season but in every one I've been surrounded by foreigners who are not Spurs fans and who chat constantly throughout the game, never sing, and are patently there on a jolly. I've also seen more empty seats than ever this season. I do not believe this is down to season ticket holders getting disgruntled because we've been shit and not turning up - I believe it's almost entirely down to StubHub. Get rid of that shit and have a simple ticket transfer system which works based on a fixed face value price.
2. No mention of support for Sherwood.
He's gone. He knows it, the club knows it, and the intention is to get in LvG. I'm more certain of all this than ever after the 'style of football' statement.
3. No mention this time around of 'no intention of selling our best players'.
This is a tacit admission that we no longer have the power to force a player to stay if he no longer wants to be at the club, and we get an acceptable bid in for him. Lloris is probably off (maybe not to Barca anymore after today's news) and Vertonghen will probably follow him. It's also an admission that we've been pretty rubbish this season and haven't got the obvious stand-out player we've had each of the last few years. That in itself is quite depressing.
4. No summer of major upheaval.
To me this says we have no plans to sell anyone, not least because LvG will be arriving after the WC and so will need the end of the summer to look at the squad, but probably not have enough time to decide he doesn't want certain players. We're looking to sign 2 or 3 first-team players - my hope and expectation is that they are a LB, CB and GK.
Interestingly we haven't even had the usual statement along the lines of "we have no plans for major upheaval but as always we will look to take advantage of any opportunities should they arise". Perhaps a halt finally to the player exchange?
Also no mention of a renewed interest in signing young English players as has been mooted in the press recently.
The caveat to all this is the above about not being able to hold on to our best players of course.
I bet the Barca news was absolute music to Levy's ears today - and I bet Hugo's weeping quietly somewhere.
Ultimately it's what's not been said which is most interesting to me.
No, it is. Levy said.Until it's built I won't hold me breath.
Until it's built I won't hold me breath.
Similar statements about the stadium were about 5 years ago. I remember seeing a mock up model when I did the WHL tour.
From the same place as the interest free loan? From increasing our net debt slightly? From the ever increasing TV revenue? Its difficult to do that now with FPP. In the past however, we have been known to make a net investments in the squad (when Ramos came in and again when Redknapp first arrived).
I just feel that during the crucial period where we were doing well under Harry, we were too risk averse in the transfer market. I've always been totally on board with our wage structure as it's money written off and cannot be allowed to spiral out of control. I think we were far too reluctant to pay the transfer fees necessary at key times though and took too long messing about. Sometimes, if you really need an asset, you have to pay over market value. Just my opinion.
Anyway, as has been said, with FFP on the horizon there is not alot we can do financially until we get the new stadium. I think we must have been using the TV money to contribute to stadium project. It will be interesting when it goes ahead to see how much is needed after naming rights.
Bog standard BSoDL shite. So in other words we are punching above our weight, then you won't fire Sherwood if we finish 6th or 7th, will you? Will you?“At the time of this announcement, we are in sixth position in the Premier League and it has been another season when the top four places have been fiercely contested by at least seven teams. It is no surprise that the English Premier League is the most watched League in the world as every season the fight for a top four UEFA Champions League place becomes more competitive.
“We have come far in the last decade - we have raised our expectations from a Club aiming to be in the top half of the table, to competing in Europe each season - to the point at which we find ourselves disappointed if we don't make Champions League.
“This season we have had to make significant changes, both in respect of coaching and playing staff and yet we are currently only two points less than last season’s tally. Whilst this season’s performances and results have not lived up to expectation, we believe our squad has potential and it is important that we all now show commitment and teamwork to get the best possible finish to the season.
If ever I would add
Considering the statement says 2017 I very much doubt you could hold your breath until then
Really?
We're owned by an investment company. They need to build a new stadium to massively increase the value of the club to get maximum profit when its eventually sold.
Just reported on BBC 24/7 News that we are again looking at playing at Wembley whilst our stadium is being built.
I guess with FFP fully kicking in the race is on to go with everyone else.
Barca had agreed a deal for Ter Stegen. Hugo wasn't even on their radar.
