We were linked with him that season when we didn't sign anyone, apparently he was good with Nagelsmann and he is great at passing and press resistant, but poor defensively (and somehow played as CB a few times).

Out of contract this summer so cheap, cheap, cheap!!

If we are going to be serious about signing a few out of contract players, I wouldn't mind us getting one or two of them in early, even if it costs a moderate fee.

Integrating 6 or 7 signings (free or otherwise) in the summer is a difficult thing to do; better to break it up over the course of 6 months.

This is surprising to hear based off these stats suggesting he’s one of the best defensively around??

Said to cost 5m in January due to the contract. Makes sense, he's a very reliable solid player

I know he has some admirers and he is cheap. But in my opinion he is also absolutely average. Don't think he is anywhere near the quality we should be looking for. I'm afraid he just would be another player we will not be able to get rid in 1-2 years after he made 10 appearances for us. I would love to have again an austrian player in our squad after Kevin Wimmer, but please not Grillitsch. We finally need top quality in midfield again and not another "yeah, he is solid and can play the safe sideway pass and he is cheap" player.

Think Conte will look more after a role player than a "special" player though. Brozovic isn't exactly Modric neither.

what type of player is he? we've got too many of these "versatile" type players, think we need specific types now? ie a forward, creative cm, cb & maybe a winger?

Obviously we need to be signing quality players who improve the squad, but surely not being able to get rid of him will primarily depend on the wages he'll be on.

A small January transfer fee and moderate wages could actually see us making money on him, if we flogged him to a midtable club in 2 seasons time.

His highlights video looks good in the sense that he tracks runners, uses his large frame to make last ditch challenges, decent array of positive forward passing and a good shot on him. However, if you look at the pace of the games when his qualities are highlighted it’s pretty much at a snails pace. The EPL is 100mph and this is where my fear lies with him. Many a player have looked good in European leagues only to not be able to cope with the pace and intensity of the EPL. His highlights show he’s a decent all rounder but is he an elite player? No. does he have something about him to suggest he can raise his standard? No. We need 2 new first choice central midfielders and not another Hojbjerg, Ndombele or Lo Celso. Currently Skipp is the only player who suits our system.

But conte doesn’t use wingers and we have Son, Lucas, Bergwijn and Gil all needing to fit in more centrally already. Unless you are meaning as a wing back to give a more attacking option to Emerson, in which case I agree.
