We should have a Baldini appreciation thread, he's done an incredible job in the transfer window

Senor Baldini, I salute you.

And I hope that you are holding up one finger for every world class signing you will be involved in this summer.

I've posted too much in this thread already, but I can't believe how effective this guy has been.

Our transfer window is comparable with Man City

Makes you wonder if its all about contacts in football or if its just a case of being willing to spend the cash!

I'd crawl a thousand miles, naked, over broken glass to hear him fart down a telephone. That's how in love I am.

Bit of both I'd say. Probably 75% of our signings will be down to cash. We're dealing with professionals after all. More importantly though, DL simply isn't a DoF. We've always, for better or worse, done quicker and more structured business under a DoF.

It resembled a drunk throwing knives at the side of a barn at times these last 3 yrs or so such was the lack of a coherent plan or direction the squad should be taking.

I think it's a case of willing to spend the cash. Itk said Levy has being chasing Paulinho since last year, Soldado i think we've been chasing for two years, AVB said they had been watching Chadil for a long time. So none of these IMO were his signings, he was involved in the negotiations but Levy could have done those negotiations. Capoue might have well been a Baldini suggestion, if it was then it seems on the evidence of Capoue's début to be a very good signing for a very good price and that to me is the benefit of having a DOF. Someone who can go and discover the Willans and Lamelas for a low price.

cannot see him making any difference at all to the way Levy operates but nice to give the fans some false hope for a week or 2

Great sighing, must admit I was sceptical Levy would let him do his job but no worries on that front

Happy to have been proved a numpty

JJ said the other day that we were looking at Capoue in January.

I think the main reason for this 'success' all of a sudden is not Baldini, its purely down to the fact that for whatever reason we have a huge amount of money to spend and serious intent in spending it. His book of contacts and good standing in the game no doubt helps, but I doubt many of these targets (maybe Lamela) have been down to him due to the short length of time he has been at the club. I think in future years he will have a bigger impact.

I don't know how much of an impact he'll have in future years, I'd say after this window the cheque book will be closed for a while.

Fair enough, wondering what's going on with Willian. Would love it done and dusted soon.

Apparently so, might well be resting on Lamela, from his brothers Twitter:

"Erik is in London. Yes, it is certain, we hope that everything will be completed in a few hours."

That was about an hour ago.

Re the other thing, I don't think you can be blamed, I think we'd all be liars if we said we weren't all expecting the same :)
