Franco Baldini's Tottenham future in doubt after top-level behind-the-scenes clashes

Franco Baldini's reign as Tottenham’s director of football is under increasing threat , writes Steve Bates of the Sunday People .

It is thought that the club’s board may not be convinced he is the right man for the job.

Chairman Daniel Levy and manager Tim Sherwood have also clashed with the Italian coach , who served as Fabio Capello’s assistant during his time as England boss.

Central to the tensions developing between Baldini and the Tottenham hierarchy is the failure of frontman Erik Lamela to make an impact. The north London club spent £30 million of the £85m Real Madrid paid them for Gareth Bale on him.

Injured Lamela was sourced by Baldini, and Spurs may off-load the young winger in the summer.

Not sure how much of this is true, but taking this on face value it doesn't make great reading. It makes Levy look rather incompetent with potentially yet another failed appointment.

Lamela has not had a chance to prove anything, so not sure how any assessment can be made on him. The idea of selling Lamela is not too dissimilar to when Spurs were looking to sell Bale and look how that turned out! One word springs to mind, fickle! Let's hope this is media drivel !

Is it from the people or mirror? Either way it's another newspaper adding 2 and 2 together. New manager, lamela not playing, dof = crisis at spurs.
Lack of quotes is deafening, not even a source close to the club.

Who knows - could be more tabloid bull-shit

Saying that, Levy's record of hiring and firing managers and other staff is pretty shocking

Graham, Hoddle, Santini, Jol, Ramos, Redknapp, AVB, Sherwood; 13 or 14 years in charge, 8 managers, 1 Champs League qualification and 1 trophy - it's not great

Well, Franco was just at the game at Newcastle supporting Sherwood and Spurs....Probably them trying to create a crisis bc of Lamela even though he is hurt.

It's easy to say spurs will sell lamela, but who will pay anywhere near what we did if he has barely played? And we all know levy won't accept a massive loss.

All bullshit anyway, the kid has barely had a chance. I still think, and pray, he will come good. He can't have gone shit overnight.

I may be in the minority here, but I think most of our summer signings were good. We may not see all the fruits until next season, but generally they are decent players that the media try to portray as shit.

Paulinho, eriksen and vlad have all been successful. Capoue was great before his injury and getting back there now. Soldado has actually played some lovely link up play even if his goal tally has been short of what we expect. Chadli and lamela need to prove themselves still, but I wouldn't write them off yet. Baldini should be judged once these players have had their second season.

The media seem to love it if our club blows up and do everything to make it seem our club is in turmoil... What is worse is some of our fans aren't helping, always quick to jump on the bandwagon, he is clueless, he is a p****, kind of shit.

How many times...we will not sell Lamela unless we get a £20-25m + bid for him. He's only just been bought, on a long contract and we hold the cards. Levy is not going to cave in this early

So because one of the brightest and best young talents in world football, who was a major coup for us to sign in the first place, has been hideously mis-managed his entire time here and then crocked right after a change of the coaching set-up, the DoF's position is under threat? Riiiiight.

Having said that, I wouldn't be surprised if he's not long with us. Not because of the fuck ups of others though

Lamela probably a write off for this season, but with a pre season with us in the summer next season will be the one to show on way or another if he is as good as his hype

Baldini offered to resign and it was rejected.
If Baldini was arguing with everyone, he would just resign and leave.
