So maybe, drop Lennon, shift VDV out to the right (on the team sheet at least). Bale back to LB. Modric, like VDV finds himself out wide, except on the left on the team sheet.

Then have two of Wilson/Hudd/Sandro sitting deeper to protect the back 4 when Bale bombs forward and give some protection to the wide areas when Modric and VDV go a wanderin' in-field.

Then who to start up front? Go with Defoe and Crouch I guess. I'd go with Pav due to better movement and fewer crosses coming in added the fact we'd be a much narrower, through-the-middle side for much of the game with Modric and VDV coming centrally if any of this shit happened but eh. Interesting to think about anyway.

Bed time.

If football was based on how you played between the 18's, Spurs would be with Barcelona and Woolwich Wanderers as the best teams in the world.

Sadly its not though.

yeah fair enough we have a few injuries. and except for a stupid kaboul listake we should have had 3 points..

bentley was awful. he lost the ball all night long and his set pieces were bad.

ok he tried kranjcar on the right that doesnt work.

either play jenas on the right(who has done fine there before) or dos santos.

why was pav taken off. he was holding the ball up well and was linking well with vdv

Back injury is the story, he was noticeably struggling towards the end of th half.

I think you're harsh on Bentley, he and Huton did well in the first half, Bentley then tailed off in the second which you would expect given his lack of fitness. His delivery wasn't great but again I could attribute that to rustiness, in general I thought he did ok and gave us balance.

Not necessarily what I would have gone for, would prefer one proper wide player on the opposing flank to a cutter inner. But that midfield may work in a diamond. With Hutton and Bale as fullbacks offering width, this midfield may be more productive and allow us to play 2 strikers, my preference of the current lot being Pav and Defoe when all are fit:

Huddlestone

Palacios---------------- Modric

Van Der Vaart

Essentially a 4312 system, sadly no room for Lennon there. You're right though, time for bed.

With Charlie back from injury, I wouldn't mind 'Arry trying out Hutton at RW/RM when Lennon is unavailable.

This could work with Bale/Hutton at full back and Defoe and Pav upfront, I do have concerns about Hudd being the defensive hub though, actually think in time Sandro will be a better option just for his mobility and closing down. He just needs to get used to the pace of the prem which will only come with experience.

I agree with the Frustration Hotspur part of the OP...but I am slightly worried that, fantastic as VDV is, his playing and the tactical changes that have ensued have left us inbalanced as a team.

I would like to see a team where he continues to play AND we get more resuls in the league, and maybe all we need is a striker that can play in front of his AND contribute with goals - because Couchy, much as he contributes in other areas of play, just isn't prolific enough to play 4-5-1.

I wouldn't consider Hudd as the defensive hubb, in terms of positioning he is the furthest back there, but I would have Palacios doing most of the defensive work, despite him being further forward on the teamsheet. WP to do the dirty work, Hudd to do the more delicate defensive work, Modric and VDV with a bit of freedom to attack.

No idea if it would be the most successul setup but I'd like to see it given a go, can't see it happening though. Redknapp seems to like that flat 4 of a 442 even when trying to play a different formation.

See what you mean, and agree about Harry liking the flat 4 in his system no matter the personnel. The one time he did change it round to a 3 in the CC he played the complete wrong midfield and we were punished badly so I guess that justifies to him that we need to play a rigid 4.
