Sanchez taking a pen means that he stepped up more than 6 others did. And leaving that aside, penalties is always a lottery.

We could easily have won that game in normal time with our first team. And the gutting thing is there wasn’t even an advantage to be had in playing a second team.

I think it shows that when you put out a team with very few minutes in their legs you get a tie tired looking performance with little confidence.

More worrying for me is that only Sanchez stood up to take the third penalty.
Would literally be my tenth choice.
Naaa, some of the performances tonight were not of tiring players. They are players who just aren’t suited to this style of play and need shifted.

I feel for Sanchez, fair play to him for Atleast trying to step up.

Are we going to put blame on ange who has been here for 1-2 months because we have shitty players who have lingerd on and are too bad for a top side Sanchez, Hojbjerg and skipp ? FFS grow up and have some patience
Did someone else pick the team?
No excuse for rotating so heavily.

It’s on him and I reckon he will hold his hands up to his error.

He learnt a hard lesson tonight in that you can’t take liberties against a Premier League club.

I get the frustration with the heavily rotated team but how else is Ange supposed to understand which players he can count on, if he doesn't give said players the opportunity in a competitive fixture? He needed an opportunity to see how the other players go about implementing his style of play and this performance will tell him all he needs to know. Not a great result but I look forward to seeing the improvements we make moving forward.

It is what it is.

Ange knows he could have made less changes to the starting 11 but he wanted to see how the squad fit with his tactics.

We know that effectively the spine needs an improvement. We need a new centre back, cover for Maddison and a player who can lead the line.

VDV played well tonight. My MOTM. Snuffed most things out but was let down by a really one dimensional midfield pivot

Forster did well during the match. Pulled off some good saves.

No blame laid at Sanchez for missing a penalty. It happens. Worryingly he would have put his name up ahead of Emerson, Davies, Hojberg, and to a lesser point Scarlett. Hojberg out of those would have been the logical choice, but perhaps his cojones shrunk.
Spot on 👏

Surely you’d have looked at last season - knocked out at forest and Sheff Utd and thought we can’t let that happen again…but here we are. Fully expect to be knocked out in 3rd of FA cup away to Norwich.

I’m beginning to wonder if Levy offers an incentive to win things. £5m bonus to the manager if he gets top 4. £50 discount voucher for the club shop if he wins the League Cup and £100 voucher if he wins the FA Cup

I just can’t get me head around why all the managers in the last 10 years throw the cups. Mind boggling

Forster was the biggest mistake of the lot.

Put Vicario in goal tonight and we might have won.

People need to get real, Forster was Southampton's 3rd choice goalie and needs upgrading ASAP ,hes not bloody good enough.

I can’t remember if it was for us or his country but didn’t Sanchez smash home a penalty last season?
