Will Gallas be in the first team after January?
He gives his all in every game, I have doubt about that - but I think he is now showing his age.

QPR might take him! - but seriously I think Dawson must now stay.

Kaboul - Vertongen - Caulker - Dawson - would be a good centre back unit.

The only logic I can see is that AvB sees him as a leadership/ experience role that we'd otherwise be lacking.

I can't understand it myself though as I think we have players all through our side who have years of experience and seem to have been leaders for either our clubs or others in the past: Dempsey, Kaboul, Dawson, Lloris

Gallas clearly plays with a lot of passion and desire, but I think it can be a risk sometimes, I'd love to see our new breed brought through as leaders too, Sandro, Vertonghen, Dembele will hopefully all be the leaders we need in future and the only way to do that is put the responsibility on them and leaving out the likes of Gallas.

Gallas appears slow / tired in comparison to the rest of the team , time for a replacement imo.

And don't forget Bassong who has been playing out of his skin of late!!!!

good call - the spurs "fans" did though give him lots of grief.

He should have stayed I agree - I hate hindsight - makes mugs of us all.

If kaboul and Benny stay fit, then it would seem Dawson will become 4th choice CB, personally right now i would play him ahead of caulker(for certainly this season) But in terms of the club getting anything from the sale of either, it would appear Dawson is more likely to be sold in Jan.

Dont see Dembele as leader for some reason.

But I agree with the rest.

Even if that's the case, there's plenty of other candidates. Can't remember that last time I thought that about a Spurs squad!

Kaboul can't come back quick enough.

Can't wait to see him and Vert at the back with Ekotto at LB - thing that will be seriously strong.

Spot on Mr P!

A fit Kaboul/Vertongen centre should be very good.

BAE needs backup (Not KN he good on the right though) - I would get Rose back - but we need another proper left sided full back. Jan does do a good job - but may not be quick enough when he's got his attacking goggles on.

As far as I'm concerned, he never should have played for us again after his disgraceful display in the FA Cup semi vs Chavski last season. The guy is so far past his best it's just not funny - he's a complete liability and the whole leadership thing is a complete myth

Always rankled me that AVB always chose him over Dawson, even more when he kept turning in such bad performances.

He's out of contact at the ends of the season, surely he will go. Hopefully Dawson will stay.

QPR didn't want to pay the wages he was after so we were stuck with him but pretty obvious we won't be offering a new contract at the end of the season.

Hope Caulker learns to listen to his keeper and stops panicking at the end of games, that twice he has hacked away from the keeper and given goals away now, West Ham and Everton.

I think we need to give Gallas some credit. In our 2-3 win over Arsenal at the Emirates he was frankly superb, predicting runs and passed and made a number of really crucial interceptions. He also used to make very intelligent runs to our own goal line when he knew Gomes or Friedel was advancing for a 1 on 1.

It's this aspect of his game that, with age, is going now. He seems far more reactive than pro-active now. I think if I had a choice I would pick Dawson over him (to be fair it looked like AVB had done that last week at Fulham, who knows if he would have stayed in were it not for Dawson's injury).

So yeah, his time is up and his problem is a bit like BAE, when he messes up, it's blatantly obvious. There are a number of defenders (someone like Clichy at Man City springs to mind) who make a lot of errors positionally but these normally get overlooked by the media, fans and pundits. However, there have been a few game where he has put real shifts in, especially last season and that shouldn't be completely forgotten.

To be fair, he was very good for almost all the Everton game. He was playing one of the league's best attacks and did well. Him and Caulker. Mistakes happen to the best.

Having said that, Gallas has been very poor for more than a year. Reading of the game isn't quite good enough to make up for his pace going. Moving the ball nowhere near as effectively as he used to. Our backline works well, which I'm sure is largely down to him, but our keepers are good enough to have a similar effect. We simply wouldn't miss Gallas if we moved him on.

Like most, I hope we do. But unlike most I won't be wishing him good riddance. He's been a surprisingly good professional for us, even if the quality hasn't been able to live up to better players like King, Kaboul and now Caulker.
