I haven't read every single page of this thread (though was reading the 1 that was in spurs chat), and this comment really does go OTT.

Bale knew what our pay structure was when he was part of the team. he most probably knows that our structure is likely to go higher with the new stadium and also knows that while we are paying the stadium off it won't be the max.

if he has interest in coming back, perhaps it might be because he wants to play for us again, he over the last 5 seasons has earnt so much that perhaps he doesn't need to worry about financials now, even if he had to call it a day tomorrow.

lets just wait and see if it happens, you never know he might surprise us all, and if he still just wants money before football he will opt for a team willing to give it too him.
This is a good point. Money is incredibly important, but players are human and will be willing to take pay cuts if they want to do something else. just like in the world outside football, people are prepared to to take a cut. Its not like Bale will starve earning a bit less money.

Secondly, we probably will raise our wages considerably to a point where we can offer similar wages to all but the top top clubs. Bale will never have a better contract than what he is on now. Madrid wont offer him more, and not other team would match those wages. Particularly with the injury issues he is had. Hypothetically, if we do bid for Bale and he is keen to go were are not competing with his current contract we will be competing with what others will offer him.

Also on the argument about Bale and Madrid. Bale may stay on another year, its entirely possible, he may also start the champions League final, tough it is actually unlikely, he is clearly not considered the future of Real anymore. The players behind him have a lot of Spanish media hype and are young and promising, Bale is now seen as blocking others from emerging in the first team. I think he will leave. particularly with rumors swirling around that he has still not settled in Madrid and is sick of the politics there. He also does say he wants to stay but I wonder if that is more for narrative purposes. Thing is I dont think Madrid want him long term.

Having said all this it probably wont happen for a number of reasons. But if Bale is happy to come to Spurs its in our hands to bring him back. We could do it, its question of whether it would be worth it, both financially and not.

I agree Bale is a player that could make a difference but for the money he would cost and the high wage demands I would be concerned with how injury prone he has become. He spent around a third of the season out injured with injury after injury, mostly to his calf. He missed over 40 games in 2017. Could he still handle the more physical nature of the Premier league or has he become another sicknote?
All things considered, Bale or Martial?

I don't think it would be a case of "Why is he earning more than me?" but more a case of "Why can't the club afford to pay me market rate wages if they're paying them to Bale?". If I was a key player I wouldn't be too impressed and i'd feel like I was a less valued member of the squad.

Why aren't the players asking that now? Surely Kane is on a lot more money than some of the other players? I know a couple of players want to leave, but generally speaking the players seem pretty happy.

It’s a concern, but I’d be more worried if he’d had serious knee or hamstring issues.

I can’t see it happening, but if there’s a chance it’s a no brainer imo.

Vertonghen is two years older than Bale and has ankles like jelly, but I’m sure everyone would be very pleased if he was given a huge fat contract. I know he’s already our player, but you know what I mean.

Bale is simply a risk worth taking.

Everyone thinks it’s all about money. Of course money is a big factor, but if it was that important players wouldn’t have signed for us in the first place or signed extensions.

They also no doubt want to be at a club who sign world class players as it shows them we mean business and they fulfill their ambitions with us.

I reckon Bale is shaping up to be Levy's ultimate deadline day deal, the like of which will never be seen again. :sneaky:

Why would Martial play ahead of Son? Son has significantly outperformed him for two years now.

Some people seriously underappreciate what we've got, instead just believing that the shiniest new toy is better by virtue of being the shiniest new toy. Martial would be a benchwarmer as it stands right now, unless he came in and had an excellent preseason.

I think it's a toss up depending on form honestly. They both are players who are prone to go missing for periods of time. You would just play the hot player.

I'd personally say martial, if we're considering everything (wages, fee, injury problems, age etc. ).
But is it beyond possibility we get both? Hercules said we're going for both sessegnon and martial, so maybe it's a matter of 2 out of these 3?

Son never goes missing. He may go through hot and cold spells with goals, but he will always run his bollocks off every game.

This is why I know we won't be signing Bale again, his work rate off the ball simply wouldn't be up to scratch for this team.

Why do we always presume that players are just going to continue to play as they do for their old club. Poch is a coach who instils methods into his teams and players. Eriksen didn't work off the ball so much until Poch arrived.

If we don't sign Bale because we can't afford it or he's not interested then ok, but if we don't because we don't think he'll run about enough then we're fools.[/QUOTE]

IF Real Madrid want Bale out, then we will be in the mix, if only because of the contract clause. Doesn't mean he wants, or will come of course and I could see Bayern being interested (though perhaps not at the asking price), but I do think there is the possibility that Bale might only want to return to the EPL and he may only want/prefer us.

So yeah, slim to little chance, but meh, who knows!?!
I don’t think any Euro clubs will outbid premier league clubs apart from PSG
In my view if he is fit then we need what he brings more than say Manchester United. I do think from a football view he would suit Bayern

i dont think he will go to Bayern, he has won CL a few times already and its hardly pulling up trees to win the league with them
He hasnt really done the language thing either so think he will come back to Prem
