Bale will have just one year left this summer on his £600,000-a-week contract at Real Madrid and he is determined the Spaniards pay up whether he plays for them again or not.

Like we’re going part with money for another season whilst Madrid are still legally obliged to pay? For Bale read Levy.

Levy will want an adebayor type deal where we sign him for free and we pay Bale a signing on fee that compensates him for any loss in wages for the first year. Maybe £15m

Real however, will want a transfer fee. They blocked his last move on that principal. Fine, but anything extra Levy has to pay would come out of the package he could offer Bale.

Bale here is countering with his own deal - 'pay me completely off and in addition I'll agree terms with Tottenham/another.' So he'd potentially get £900k p/w for the first year! And RM would have no say on where he went.

This could be complicated by Man Utd, who saw him as the one who got away. They could offer him a much better package than us and a transfer fee.

I'm assuming here Bale keeps up his current form.

The romantic in me thinks that if Bale wants to stay with us then he won't care about a few more quid at Manure!

I doubt RM will pay him up until they're sure they don't get a better loan offer. Our problem is that if Bale lights the place up, that could well happen. I don't know if there's anything in place to extend on current terms.

i think Bale and his team might be underestimating how strapped for cash RM are at the moment.

My heart bleeds for them! They gave him that ludicrous contract and then treated him badly. If he wants to take them for every penny he has every right and (since it's RM) I hope he does.

Step one for any kind of a deal anywhere better than this season is to play like vs. Burnley (or around that quality) for the rest of the season. And maybe be the difference in a good EL run/trophy challenge.

From what we have heard the deal just rolls over next season. So he’s getting his money if he stays here. Madrid won’t want the deal to end as we are paying around 40%.

This sounds like a journalist putting 2+2 together and getting clickbait bullshit.

I may have missed some ITK on this, but from what I've seen posted on SC (and elsewhere), the details of extending the loan seem rather uncertain. Has Real committed to sanctioning an extension if we and/or Bale wish to enforce it? Have both clubs agreed it contractually, subject to Bale approving it in the summer? Has it only been agreed in principle, requiring agreement from all three parties in the summer? Would the current financial terms simply roll over for next season or need to be renegotiated?

I really hope it's as simple as if we want to keep him (dependent on him showing some consistency of fitness & form over the next 3 months) Real has to sanction an extension. Bale would become a free agent at the end of the two-year loan, so only then would we potentially enter a bidding war with other clubs.

Trix alluded to it a while ago that the deal just rolls over and everything stays the same. So hopefully that's the case

Agreed on the above. I believe the info from Trix was along the lines of - "it's basically a 2 year loan deal, but we get to send him back after 1 year if we're not happy". Of course I am paraphrasing Trix there.

Mourinho said Bale’s future beyond the end of the season was a matter for Madrid. Bale is under contract at the Bernabéu until June 2022.
That's the official position. There is no formal option to extend the loan.

I found the quote from Trix

"I'm a bit confused by this. We have the option to take him on another season long loan at the same terms as now. Why would A/ we pay more for him than we currently have to, and B/ Bale not want to continue getting his full salary he's currently on. "

Thanks. Interesting.
In which case why wouldn't Mourinho have just said we had an option on him for next year? That would have cheered everyone up.

Maybe there are tax reasons why the extension option has to be packaged as a separate 1 year loan?
ie maybe Bale pays lower tax on his RM contributed salary as long as it is a short temporary arrangement? Something like that.
