I'm sort of at an impasse...

See, I remember Ian Moores...Keith Osgood (he was a centre-half not some bloke who shoved his arm up a duck's arse 'cos that was Keith HARRIS)...John Duncan...Gerry Armstrong...Mark Kendall...

Spurs have had some right fucking 'sorts' in the squad over the decades. I'm sure those who are older than me can get stuck into some even tastier eyebrow curlers than those mentioned above...

Coverage wasn't as rife or rampant then as now. Every game was not analyzed to death and players/managers were not either golden heroes or complete cnuts based on 90+ minutes; those judgements were reserved for a season or so at least.

But in this day and age, everyone knows everything and everyone could do it better. Jesus, if it isn't reality television making people think their lives are 'important', then it's the fucking internet and video game world deluding people into thinking they know it all. Seriously! There is an entire generation that thinks that because they can play Championship Manager or Fifa 09, they know what it takes to be a great manager or coach.

I am genuinely amazed at the response of some people to the Keane signing today. Look, when he fucked off in the summer I was absolutely gutted and angry, but things happen. That he's shown the bravery to come back is illustration that the bloke is absolutely what we need now; a LEADER. A BRAVE man. A FIGHTER. And a SCORER.

Were there some other areas that needed addressing? Probably. Did we try to address them in the Jan window? It would seem so according to Keith Lamb at 'Boro.

And yet I read through line after line of complaints and assertions that the club have no clue. I mean, do people really mean that? Does anyone really think any of the coaches and upper management working at the club 'have no clue?' Naaaaaa, didn't think so.

Which brings me to the reason I am riting this; I'd love to say it to all the whingers, but instead, I'll say it here to anyone who wants to take it on board. Stop sounding so spoilt, stop sounding deluded, realize we are in a relegation fight, understand exactly WHO was available in Jan and then say we didn't do OK in the window. Because my view (thankfully) doesn't show a Moores or Osgood in sight!!!!!

Tell me about it. I cannot believe some of the ill-informed vitriol spouted on this forum. I wouldn't mind as much if it was based on something resembling a logical train of thought. But so many people think that they know everything about football because they won the League on FM. The one I always like to say to anyone who plays the 'tactically naive' card, is if you know so much about it, go and become a football manager.

it is worrying, moreso than anything else, bcos it is people like this that end up putting undue pressure on managers, players and the chairman. that is the reason we have this managerial merry-go-round bcos our fans are not willing, or are incapable of being patient, or seeing the reality of the situation. What happens then is that when a few people start to express their ill informed opinions, others who are on the fence can often become influenced and slowly but surely a tide of doscontent grows and we're back on the merry-go-round again.

Well said mate.

Ah yes, the 'tactically naive' card. The last refuge of those without anything intelligent to say. Rez, that bugs me too!

Inevitably this thread will get swamped by those saying 'it's my right to have an opinion
and I pay my money etc...'

It's also your right to invoke your brain cells before reeling out hateful nonsense and spill your insecurities out onto a messageboard. Some of the stuff I've read recently has just baffled me.

This is true, I've often said that being a fan is a 2 way thing. You get behind your team and hopefully the team will respond.

Unfortunately so many people see themselves as consumers rather than fans, like going to a restaurant. It's saddening.

A superb analogy...

...of course, to muck around with that one further, can you imagine some of these whinging numpties going up to Gordon Ramsey or Marco Pierre White and telling them that their dishes lack balance and don't address the REAL needs which, of course, only the diner can see...LOL...

:rofl::rofl:

I'll take it one further...

and despite taking his restaurant twice to 5 star placings and 3 consecutive years of european restaurant openings he clearly can't take his food to the next level. He is indeed, 'culinary naive'.

I'll get my coat.

Great thread. And the consumer/fan analogy is an interesting and valid one.

Not to jump on the bandwagon, but that is a superb description.
