Speaking about Insigne and height, he is actually 5.3-5.4. Rachel McAdams is marginally taller, and far taller in high heels. Doesn't anybody worry about that (assuming that our reported interest is correct)?

Don't think height really matters if you've got explosiveness and enough strength/balance.

If anything, having a low centre of gravity is beneficial to a wide player who works in tight spaces (like Insigne) imo.

No. Because he can fit through peoples legs.

IDK, to me really successful AMs in the PL have always been a few inches taller than that. And I know by saying that some weirdo is going to point out that back in 2010 this really short guy did very well for Chelsea or mention Cazorla or something. I'm obviously taking in broad terms here, and I never liked Cazorla. Not least because he is too short.

Not sure either way on Wijnaldum.
DM needed to be signed - we got Wanymama done, happy with that. Manager knows him, so must have clear knowledge that he'll have an impact. Known force in the league, and also CL experience.
CF needed to be signed, looks like Janssen is edging closer, happy with that. Got good strength from what I've seen, solid work ethic, and above all else, is clinical off either foot.
The one remaining area to address, is probably someone to open up defence's. We have Son and Njie (now fit) who have pace, Eriksen and Lamela have excellent technique, then Alli has a terrific engine, desire, and a knack of getting into dangerous positions. The one type of AM I don't think we have is someone who can run at players, and take them on, open up defence's, drawing deep sitting defence's out of position. Is Wijnaldum that type of player, I'm not 100% sure he has Boufal's ability to dribble, but he does have a very productive first season in a poor team behind him. Key thing for me would be his attitude and mentality, maintain that team spirit, and it is being suggested that there is a lot of emphasis on that in our scouting now.

Yunus Malli is the other player we were linked with, and seemed like a deal could've been done, but gone quiet.

Not heard any other major prem team after him?

No. I'm still interested in Rachel McAdams regardless.

Good Canadian girl.

Jesus fucking christ, Wijnaldum, really ? He was great in about 5 games and absolutely shit in about 25.

You couldn't trust him in a CM2, and we already have Onomah as back up for Alli as a CM and Pritchard as back up for Alli as an ACM. We also have Bentaleb who's better in some areas already than Dembele, just needs to improve a little defensively but has already proved over a whole season he is an outstanding alternative option for LCM (and Wijnaldum is right footed anyway).

Yeah i hope not. We aren't really improving much by signing this guy as we already have players who do what he does. If we want an AM I'd hope its someone similar in nature to boufal (not saying him as that's unlikely). We need a player who can unlock the gate when there are 11 opposition players behind the ball.

Wijnaldum is a decent player I would take considering his experience in PL and price. However with Pritchard, Onomah and Edwards (even Ward) in the squad I think signing Wijnaldum would hinder their development

Have to agree with BC here, don't think the lad is the right player for us and definently is not good enough to play in a CM2

Know a few Newcastle fans who have mixed feelings but with that having been said, he got into multiple figures for goals in his first season in England (aside from Kane, only Alli and Eriksen can really compete with that), all while playing for a truly terrible side under arguably the worst manager in the league.

I've seen Pochettino transform Danny Rose from one of the worst defenders I've seen play for Spurs into the league's best left back. I've got little doubt he'd be able to do that with a player like Wijnaldum, who has already shown a fair bit of promise, albeit nothing exceptional.

Not wishing to discredit Poch but Danny Rose was excellent at Sunderland.

I think playing in high heels might be a hindrance to Insigne. If Rachel McAdams is used to wearing them we should be signing her instead.

I see all the experts are out again. Lovely.

Personally rate GW and think he would provide much better depth than the likes of Carroll, Mason and Onomah (at this stage at least).

That said, if it meant that we don't sign a winger/wide forward player then I would be against it. I think we have a more pressing need for a quick, skilful player that can operate in wide areas.

I'd like to think though that GW would come relatively cheap in the current market and would therefore be a smart addition to improve our squad depth.
