Having a great game, just what we need at the moment!

I know its against Southampton but hes still been their best player all season.

O'Hara today

Portsmouth 4-1 up at Southampton. O'Hara been superb, driving forward and scored once. Ok its only Southampton and he is not better than Hud or Wilson but he is the ideal player for games like Wolves away, where Wilson is rested.
We don't have anyone who can replace Wilson but O'Hara would do it better than anyone else. I think loaning him to Portsmouth again was a mistake- partic with Wison apparently unable to play more than one game a week.

I totally agree, He has been the reason that pompey's midfield has created so much..He has pace and likes to move with the ball unlike huddlestone.. He's positioning and passing are easily on par with huddlestone's and he's shooting makes huddlestone's look rather pathetic..

He may not be the most talented, but against teams like Wolves he has the leadership and drive to push us on, if Pompy stay up it will be because of him.

If only some of our current crop had his bollocks

Not too sure I agree with him replacing THudd, but he's a far better back up than JJ. :violin:

P.S. I like O'Hara, but let's keep today's performance in proper perspective - Saints aren't exactly top competition and Pompey were on the ropes for the first 45 minutes

He'll be stuck at Pompey principally as part of the deal that brought Kaboul back and gave us the opportunity to by their keeper at a snip, although it didn't transpire.

He is not better then Wilson, But I can't agree with you on huddlestone

We've lacked pace since Lennon has been out, O'hara would have filled that void in the middle.

Copying what I posted in today's Cup thread in General Football:

I'm now going to say something I never thought I'd say at the start of this season: I wish we had him here instead of Jenas.

And in the following post:

I can't believe how sharp JJ's decline has been this season. As soon as he lost a starting place to THudd he also lost all his footballing ability. It's shocking. I thought he got an unreasonable amount of stick on here in previous seasons and always stood up for him, but now ... I cringe every time he starts!

Whereas Jamie's been Pompey's best player by a mile this season, and also works so hard all the time. Would be much better cover for our starting two.

Unfortunately there is no way we can bring him back until the summer, due to what I understand are the terms in the loan agreement.

I like O'Hara, but he's not better than Wilson or THudd full stop. He's a much better back up than JJ, but not a player to displace the 2 CM starters.

Well it seems to me like O'Hara has made it clear that he wants to play football, Harry with the options we have decided he was unlikely to get much playing time with us this season. Instead of selling him he has loaned him to a side where he gets to play every week and show what he is capable of. JOH may just have resurrected his Spurs career whereas in previous season we would have sold him or let him rot in the reserves, both Harry and JH have made the rigth decisions here.

We've already seen this seaosn how players sitting on the bench all season rarely come straight in and put in stella performances.

Jesus wept. Wise up, please.

He has said, in the region of four million, six hundred and eighteen thousand, nine hundred and forty seven interviews with actual real-life quotes and everything, that he would only play for Tottenham if he were guaranteed a first team place.

Not Harry's choice. Not Levy's choice. Not my choice. Not yours. His. His and his alone. He does not want to be even 'two of three' for the central midfield. You know how Steven Gerrard wouldn't play for us? This, in principle, is the same.

As well as a good footballer, he's a wise cookie. He knows he'd a "squad player" for us and doesn't want that from a career. He wants time on the pitch, wherever that may be. He's said it. Harry's said it. It is fact.

Hence any pining for him just make you look infantile or demented. You may as well be asking Harry to put Jermaine Jenas in goal.

EDIT: No offence, like.

Well fair play to him if true, I'd be surprised if he lacks that kind of ambition though. At the end of the day he is our player so its not really like us signing Gerrard is it?

The loan is doing him good, but considering our CL hopes are shrivelling to the size of Jenas' balls, and everytime Wilson misses a game we look weak and pathetic, we could have done with him for our run-in. I still wouldnt put him straight in the first team every game, but when things aren't going well he is the type of player you need.

I may have a different opinion if we bought a Wilson back up like we should have done in the Jan window.

No 'if' about it, fella. And that depends on your definition of ambition. Some would say he has a right to aim for the best in his career. Getting ten minutes here and there and cup games for us isn't going to do that.

Just think of him as The Anti-Bogarde.

I'd play him over the Hudd, he gets more involved, demands the ball and is a better short range pass and move player. Hudd passes the ball but doesn't move and his lack of agility prevents a quick change of direction to shrug off opponents - hence he finds it difficult when given no time and space.
