“Knowing” is such an incredibly loose term to use when judging a player scoring goals in the Belgian league though. Not a single person on this forum has a properly informed opinion on this guy. All they have is an 8-10 minute YouTube reel of him scoring goals against mostly championship/league 1 standard opposition, that is the level of most of the teams in that league with a few exceptions. Obviously our scouts will have watched him more extensively but anyone on here claiming they feel they’ve seen a possible next generation superstar is talking pure bollocks, seriously. People may think he’s worth a punt at a reasonable price (something south of 20m pounds) and I agree with that but there’s no way we shouldn’t be doing our absolute best to sign attackers with at least somewhat good track records at a way higher level than the Belgian league to replace Kane. This guy goes in the Phillips and Veliz category for me, shouldn’t be relying on him having anything to do with the first team.
But isn't this where we rely on the expertise of our scouts and data analysts to find young players who are going to be big players in the future. If they say he has that potential then shouldn't we take a punt. If we'd have taken a punt on Eze at QPR and Olize at Reading we'd be feeling very chuffed with ourselves right now.

How hesitant can they be we literally signed a keeper from Italy a month ago.
Also, not sure many (if any) Italian clubs can afford hesitancy when their finances are in such dire states of affair

We certainly would have, unfortunately we had managers that did not feel the need to want them. Hopefully Ange is here long term and is more understanding of bedding in players.

If we get Orban, presumably Romano will forego his usual 'here we go' and opt instead for 'it's a wrap'. I certainly would.

Initially I laughed at this link, he has only played in poor leagues and barely had a senior career....but his record speaks for itself and then I was reminded that the last Nigerian striker to play in the Belgian league and then go onto become a top player was Osimhen. From watching youtube videos, dare I say he reminds me a bit of Aguero.

No more risk here than say Haaland or Sesko coming out of the Austrian league, who had similar first team experience and goal scoring records at comparable league levels.

I always read people on this board wanting to sign the next superstar before they become that player but in the same breathe are afraid to give those players opportunities in the first team or think it’s too big of a risk. You can’t have it both ways. To develop a Haaland you have to take the risk and put faith in the player at this level and trust your scouts.

But no one bought him off the back of that time in Belgium, Got noticed more when he was at Lille

We shouldn't look a gift orban in the mouth ( has that been done yet)?

[Lineker:]Well we may not be in the worrying political landscape of modern Hungary, but do you think Orban is positioning himself too far out on the right wing Alan?

I dont think its just that a club comes in for him from Portugal, France Holland lets says hes 10M a Uk clb comes calling its 30M. The risk is higher

Aguero also a bit like obafemi Martin's or yakubu. That's probably more in stature than play style.

The more I think about it the more I think he's the perfect signing.

We've got Richarlison and Son in place as senior, reasonably well-established strikers for the short term. Richy is preferred over Gabriel Jesus for his country and Sonny has a brilliant scoring record when played up front. We've also got two teenagers with real potential in Scarlett and Veliz. We're in a good position to take a punt.

Orban's meteoric rise has been nothing short of incredible and there's a chance, even if slim, that he could prove to be one of those special players with preternatural goalscoring instincts. Even if not, we're well-covered in the No. 9 position both in the short- and long-term.

Roll the dice IMO.

He’s the type of player we need to pick up more often. Too many people on this board complain about us not competing for star players, in the next breath they say we should sign promising young players with high ceilings… and then when linked with one, complain we aren’t acting like a big club signing promising youngsters from leagues like Belgium.

No doubt, if we don’t get him, someone else does, and he does well, those same people will be complaining when we’re priced out.

I literally said in my post that it’s worth a punt at reasonable price. The thing I’m opposed to is those saying they’ve seen a potential next superstar from a 10 minute YouTube video, it’s absolute nonsense. By all means sign Orban but he shouldn’t have anything to do with our plans to replace Kane, a much higher calibre and more proven level of player is required
