It is a lot of money for him, if you ask me. £30 million isnt a cheap punt for us, the way we operate, it is a first team starter.
This is a part of the problem though, yes we find gems in and around that price range but a failure to adapt to the transfer market changes is what stops us kicking on.

Just tell Gent we will pay and initial 20m fee with 10m add ons if we win the league or CL this season 👀

I think the fact that we're talking to Gent proves that our own scouting team and Ange have identified him as a player we want, so for all the opinions on here about how he'll fit in is irrelevant. The simple fact is the selling club sets the price, we may not want to pay that, but if that's the case then we can take a chance that he'll still be available on deadline day and Gent get desperate or we walk away. Saying we don't need a player who scores goals given that we've just lost the most prolific goal scorer in world football is ridiculous. We absolutely do need this type of player.

Did Arsenal need Rice, Chelsea need Enzo and the rest of world football, did Liverpool need VVD or Salah? All these teams bought these players to improve so they could compete, if we accept that we really don't need an extra player who will improve our chances of competing, then really what's the point.

Also worth pointing out that Palace have just lost Olise on top of Zaha, reckon there's a good chance they're now in the market for someone like Orban who absolutely suits the profile they go for, sure then we can possibly debate in years to come if he's worth the 100m price tag they place on him.
We new Kane was off. Why did they not do the deal before he went? Same old same old. Two weeks left and still think we can do a late deal/s in the basement bargin end of transfer window sale.

Pretty much our approach to every incoming transfer
That's 95% of clubs' approach to every incoming transfer.

If deals seem quick it's usually because the legwork and negotiations have been done behind the scenes over a longer period and haven't leaked.

Teams like Chelsea have distorted the market by massively overpaying to get deals over the line fast but even they took about 2 months to get Caicedo.

If this is true, just HOW can £30m be too expensive when we’re in early zero net spend? Even Bournemouth have 100m spend this season! But little old Tottenham have to balance the spreadsheets!

all Itk seems to have gone quiet. No news of outgoings, of things don’t pick up in the next week, it’ll be Groundhog Day AGAIN!

It’s wont be about not having the money, it’ll be that we don’t value him at the price.

Even that is bollocks though, 30m in this market is peanuts.
It’s not though, is it. £30m is a lot of money (1/3ish of the Kane money). If the club believes he’s overpriced, they won’t pay.
how is not the supporters money? We’re the ones tajt put money into the club with the highest ticket prices, money on replica shirts and clothing etc, even now charging us to watch pre season friendlies.
You understand that once you’ve spent the money, it ceases to be your money. It then becomes the property of the person or entity that you gave the money to. And you cease to have any right to dictate what they do with it.

To be honest, I understand your frustration, but there’s fuck all you can do about it, so why give yourself the additional stress?

This was my view too, and Marcos Leonardo allegedly has a lower valuation.
The reality is, €30m in the current market isn’t that much. And you have to take a view of the value against what he can potentially add to your team. We need a CF, are we really going to find one ready to come in and make an instant difference for under €30m??
It’s £ tho not € (according to that report) and we don’t know if they would want add ons with that. I would think at least a sell on % would be a given and probably more. I’ve actually seen it mentioned on twitter they would be looking for a total package of €40 mil.

Thing is at the start they were supposedly looking for around €20 mil plus add on’s and now we are at £30 mil in under a month. That’s a big jump. We also have to take into consideration exactly what role we had in mind for him, how convinced we are of his ability and how much risk is involved.

Tbh I’ve given up trying to understand what is actually going on behind the scenes and if there’s even a remote plan in place but I’m not surprised if we are having second thoughts if the price has jumped by that much. And I’m sure we will be trying to get the price back down in the coming weeks. I wouldn’t think this is us out of the Orban race.

Perhaps if we had bought him earlier on in the window with the intention of Kane leaving we would have secured him at a better valuation.

Can't blame Gent for wanting top dollar from a team who's secured a big windfall - especially as so much was paid up front.

Also, pray tell, what is an acceptable valuation to some here?

Fabio Vieria Scored 8 and assisted 14 in Portugal before Arsenal signed him, scored 1 goal and 2 assists at Arsenal

Darwin Nunez scored 26 In Portugal and scored 9 for Liverpool.

Orban won't be putting up anywhere near the numbers he has in Belgium in the EPL season 1

Johnathan David scored 24 last season in France, But Lacazette scored 27

Orban will not be what we hope he will be

It's not though, is it? We've clearly been able to come to a compromise that works for both parties on a number of recent deals.

Moreover, we've demonstrably over paid for some other players in recent times, who we're now struggling to shift at even a massive loss

How do you know though? Nobody knows how he will adapt? He’s so young with huge potential let’s see what happens.

I don't know but I think its more likely that he will struggle, his numbers are padded against really poor opposition

I wish some clubs would pay some of these peanuts 🥜 for our unwanted players
Thanks for the picture of the peanut too!

the market is inflated, the fees are ridiculous we’re not going to get a TALENT and let’s be honest that’s what he is, he’s isn’t the finished article clearly, but we’re not getting him for 15m like we would had done 4/5 year ago. Down to the amount of money that’s in the prem.

This shows how stats can be useful but don't tell the full story. His numbers in Belgium are impressive as are is his goals but if we lump £30m on him and he fails it's more deadwood as we aren't getting rid of him for anywhere near that.

I remember everyone waxing lyrical about Patson Daka, he was the next one, had a great season, then had a brilliant pre-season friendly v Liverpool and went to Leicester. He's a rotation option in the Championship now.

Yeah they are but you can only play what’s in front of you. In a good system who’s to say he doesn’t adapt to the prem? Countless others have. You have to take some risks the difference is a few years back it’s a 10m risk but now it’s a 30m
