Think we can draw a line under this one given there’s serious interest from clubs in the champions league, and the fact we seem to be paralysed by a lack of outgoings.
WLB's latest suggests otherwise.

I think that’s wishful thinking, and ignoring the fact that WLB has said in this very thread that we need to move players on first.

It’s pretty clear we won’t see any signings until we’ve shifted the deadwood.
With the total lack of ruthlessness shown on the issue it’s not looking good at all for any incomings let alone ones that would make a real difference.

So 3m euro extra + addons is too expensive for us? That has to be bs. Addons means that he and/or the club have performed well, so I can't really see the problem.

I thought Orban had said he'd seen a move to the French league a better career decision than the Premier League. If he's thinking like that why would he go to Chelsea?

While that's true, all the players we buy these days have similar performance related bonuses. Imagine if we did actually win a trophy and they all kicked in at once. I can see why there would be a desire to try and keep them sensible.

Slim chance of us winning anything so I wouldn't worry about that. You know what happened last time we got near a final.

Because an offer from Chelsea (or Spurs) is different than an offer from Bournemouth or Burnley.

CB is one thing but I don't see why the outgoing transfers would have a huge impact here. He's not going to be on massive wages, he won't take up a squad place this season, and we're in major need of another option up front. Fuck the other business, get this done.

Because Chelsea would sign him, give him great wages on a 6-8 year deal. Likely loan him to said French team for development and then either integrate them or sell them to a top serie A side for a tidy ffp profit.

Chelsea won’t get close to that and I doubt that report is even true.
It’s easy to support an argument with unverified rumour.

the idea that you need to pay 80, 90, 100m+ plus to secure a certain level of player and it not be a gamble is clearly nonsense.

Gvardiol - another example of a world class player nowhere near the transfer fee of Caicedo.
Ornstein is saying it’s £35m for Hall.

Gvardiol was €90m so I’m not entirely sure what your point is, including him in your post.

I've never heard him say that. He did say that the Premier league is his ultimate dream.

He cost £77m. So only 2/3 the cost of Caicedo. So fits entirely with what I was saying.

Tbh I think all roads lead to outgoings being paramount not because we need the money, although obviously that’s always a factor, but because of our limited number of available non HG places. Personally I think all our favourite targets are non HG, CB included, but if the likes of PEH and Dier remain then spots will be more limited. Whilst we would probably be happy to leave Ndombele out the squad someone like Dier we won’t and certainly not PEH. Yes wages and bloated squad play a big part too but I reckon that we need to sell so we know exactly how much flexibility we have.

I get why we need to sell first, but if that’s what we need to do that Levy needs to accept he won’t be getting Chelsea like fees for the deadwood and will likely need to take a hit to get them off the books. We need to draw a line and move on. This is all pointing towards a mad scramble at the end of the window with us most likely coming up short.. again.

Orban doesn’t need to be registered as he’s U21 this season. For other business I agree with the point you’re making but there shouldn’t be anything preventing us from doing this specific deal.

Agree with everythink you say, however I'm sure Gift wouldn't take a Non Hg player this year because of his age?

Don’t get me wrong I agree, in general I don’t get why we can’t be more efficient and ruthless. I guess the question re Orban is now his price has gone up is he still our top target. Was he ever our top target. Maybe there’s another older player who we would prefer that would need to be registered. It could well be that we were attracted to Orban for €20 mill as a young prospect but not so sure if it’s more like €30/40 mil with Kane gone. If he is our top target for CF you are 100% right there is no excuse not to get him, but maybe he isn’t our top choice, just one of a handful.

Tbh it wouldn’t surprise me in the least if we had a handful of possible targets we like for multiple positions but aren’t entirely sure which we like most. That coupled with likely every agent/team under the sun throwing their transfer listed players at us for bargain prices knowing we just got a big upfront payout is probably resulting in us/Levy not being so sure which set of targets to move for. That’s when I can see the HG thing starting to cause concern.

Ether way there is very little excuse for us to be in this position yet still so stagnant. But on the flip side I’m not surprised at all that this is where we find ourselves.
