I would have thought those fringe players would more likely be used against Swansea and West Brom than Arsenal and Chelsea, though.

You would hope so, but I guess it depends on whether Fergie wants to test them against a bigger team. To be honest he's already said that they'll be no slacking off so I expect a strong team in every match.

Thing is, what else would he say?
Don't get me wrong, I am sure he wouldn't just send out youth players, but I simply do not buy into the same regime of needing to get results. Plus the FA wouldn't be entirely happy if he already said he was fielding only his under 21's. People want to go to the games against United and see the champions, so there's revenue considerations etc.

That is not in doubt, my doubt is the motivation of the players to give that extra 5 or 10% to get the result. Perform, yes, but we are talking games at the crunch part of the season that we need to desperately go our way and I question the ruthlessness that these players would normally show... and do you think that Ferguson will hair-dryer them if he sees good performances but are losing 1-0 to Arsenal?

I hope so... I hope the Champions will play maybe with even greater swagger and confidence, but i worry.
