Higuain would be the perfect striker for us IMO but it's just very unlikely that he would be interested in joining us.

I agree that on paper it would seem he'd be foolhardy to join Spurs. But! (and it's wholly plausible that I'm mistaken here), I think that players like AVB. And when I say players I mean the sort of European players we've all been fantasising about for years. I, personally, genuinely believe that having such a well regarded continental coach will serve us well in the recruitment of the players from Europe that we previously would have had no chance at acquiring. I'm not saying we're going to sign Benzema this summer, I'd love it if we did but it's certainly odds against. But, I think if we can hang on to this total anti-Harry we have landed for nothing thanks to Abramovich's petulant impatiance, it will absolutely be beneficial in terms of our attraction towards sought after players from the continent and, given the hugely inflated prices in the EPL which are likely to be even more exorbitant in the coming years given the new Sky money, this can only be a good thing.

I fully agree with your post above, and welcome by the way (y) .

In addition to your points, I still feel hope we have an ally with VDV and he tells ex team mates what a great club Spurs is and that it's worthwhile playing here.

Would be nice if we could do a deal that comprised of Walker and some cash. I know Walker and has great pace and a good engine and is young so in theory at least has time to improve but sadly he does seem to lack a footballing brain that suggests he will struggle to.

Nonetheless Real do still appear to hold an interest and lets be fair with Arbeloa as a right back you can see why they would be looking at options.

To me that kind of deal would get rid of a weakness in the team at the same time as strengthening another whilst not costing so much that it inhibits cash for strengthening other areas

I agree with you. AVB is not stupid and I think we will see quite a reasonable 'remodelling' of the team at the end of the season into something closer to that what he wants. I think he's done a really excellent job with what he inherited to a certain extent.

I'd hope he would get his way and that all the committee are pulling together in the same direction.

Portugese press says Moutinho will be allowed to leave at the end of the season for 25m Euros for example. Will we even be interested now though? Probably quite a few options flying around.

Will mean replacing Walker though - is Naughton actually CL class? Kaboom or Smith - doubt it tbh. Maybe Kaboul.

Yes, we're also good for their careers 'cause we don't overpay them so they can become junkies.

Have I missed something? Is Walker linked with Real Madrid?

He has been recently although the £15 mill price tag speculated sounds more than optimistic to me

To me too. Is he really good enough for Madrid? Surely not. He's young and if he finds last year's form then maybe, he was the best right back in the league last year. This year's form then no way. I don't watch Madrid enough but I do know Ramos is now a centre back. For a guy that I thought was better going forward than defending isn't he more suited to being the right back as long as they find a quality centre back?

Yeah I think Ramos is better as a rb and I really don't rate Arbeloa either, but Moutinho likes the pace and sharpness of him at CB, it worked well for them last season and with Pepe and arguably think that's their best option. Albiol who I think they hoped for better things has never really fulfilled the promise, although I think that was always likely at Valencia where he relied a lot on the experience of Marchena to get him out of trouble. I was a bit surprised they didn't persevere more with Garay who I think is a very good CB. I have a feeling Varane could develop into a decent player there for them but maybe they think getting a new RB solves the problem. I'm sure getting a good RB would help, I'm not so sure Walker is the answer though, although I think they are far happier with a really pacy attacking full back and less concerned about their defensive ability than we are

On those wages he'd definitely be an option. £20-25m. Done deal. If the family shite is to be believed then I really don't think he'd mind a move to the Lane if we achieved CL football. I'm sure if he had a word with Rafa he'd be convinced about what a great club we are. The only obstacle for me is that RM may be unwilling to do any business unless we give them assurances/promises on Bale. As long as we keep Bale it's a no brainer, a 25 year old world class striker would definitely fire us in and around the title.

Spurs "only" have to fight off Anzhi, PSG, Milan, Juve, ManC, Chelski - and a few more - for his signature...

It's not that bad though because those clubs will be fighting over the likes of Falcao, Neymar and Cavani, maybe Tevez. Juve have agreed a deal with Llorente, I doubt he'd want to go from competing with Benzema for a starting place to competing with Ibra at PSG, or against the likes of Tevez and Aguero at City. Milan no longer seem so keen to be in the market for big priced players.
If he does leave there will be competition for sure and Real themselves will be looking for a replacement but because there are a number of strikers likely to be targets in summer we should have a better chance

Wearing my Red Top Journo hat - PSG would have to be a serious candidate, Shirely? Ya know, considering he was born there and spent 10 whole months of his life there. But yeah, PSG would be an option due to the massive amounts of money they're throwing everywhere.

Even were we to finish 3rd, I have my doubts players of his calibre will actively want to join us. Maybe if he has no other options...
