Arsenal have requested the postponement of Sunday's north London derby with Tottenham at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium because of a lack of available players.

The Gunners said they have "reluctantly taken this step" as a result of injuries, positive Covid-19 cases and players away with their countries at the Africa Cup of Nations.

The Premier League board will meet on Saturday to decide whether to grant Arsenal's request.

We should add a caveat that if they win the appeal they MUST play Xhaka in the rearranged game.

Can’t use AFCON, Loans and Injuries as an excuse for postponing the game

I thought most Prem teams had a 'squad' of something like 25 players. Unless you have 10+ players injured, the game should be played, otherwise what the hell's the point in having a squad. It's their fault if their squad sucks. They bought them. Few years ago we had about 8 first teamers out injured, we still played.

I can't understand how they had a squad only last night and today they have less than 13. What happened on the way back from Liverpool?

Surely the PL can’t entertain this? 1 covid case and the rest is poor squad management. They knew they had 4 players going to AFCON and they still sent out 2 squad players on loan this week. Injuries are to be expected too. They are asking for a PP for poor squad management

The fact they loaned out maitland Niles & balogun 2 days ago, should warrant a big go fuck yourselves from the PL, no doubt they’ll get what they want though!

God I love that the Prem will almost 100% suspend the game. It's so stupid, they have 1 case, this is their fault....

Funny because using that bbc app I can field 11 Arsenal 1st teamers and 3 subs easily

The decision should only be made on the basis of Covid cases, injuries and international call up cannot be allowed to be a factor in any postponement. We’ll get to a stage where teams are requesting postponements every time they’re missing a number of key players because of non-Covid related issues.

I remember us having to play Rory Allen and Neal Fenn upfront against united so they’re getting no sympathy from me.

No shock at all this. The moment clubs were aware of what was needed to get games called off, they've been trying it on to pick and choose fixtures.

Should go ahead, only a covid outbreak of multiple players really warrant a postponement.
