With Modric and Parker in midfield we surly could have brought mason and Townsend on near the end of games, and used them in cup games it was a very very strong spurs side a could of players away from being really great. But then Rednapp didn't play krank much so what chance did youth have he didn't seem to like squad rotation just playing his strongest 11. Now we seem to play a different team each week.

I can't recall who was on loan/injured back at that time. But Sandro and Livermore were both young and both being blooded if I recall correctly. And didn't Redknapp get slaughtered for playing youngsters like Carroll in the Europa League?

After seeing our new signings fail pretty much every week, is the statement of needing time giving them a safety crutch to use as an excuse?

Plenty of players have come straight into the premier league and succeeded. Sakho, Costa, Valencia, Pelle, Tadic, Hernandez for example this season and they are the ones off the top of my head.

Don't get me wrong, I know some players have taken a season or two to adapt and hit their stride and many have failed but I can't stand the excuse anymore.

Players do need time if they aren't playing the same way they were playing at the club you signed them from

Valencia with soldado use to play quicker passes to soldado whereas under AVB we went slow. VERY SLOW

Different types of players will need different amounts of time to adapt. It also helps if said player is joining a stable club that is consistently winning games and not changing managers.

I was going to start a thread about where to go from here, but in essence its a similar thread to this one. Is it a case of Poch playing the wrong team, or is it a case of giving players more time to play together. For me, the front 4 are playing worse with every game, when they first started playing together there was a lot of movement and quick passing, lately it seems that we have lost that and just pass sideways and they dont interchange positions.

Today, Lamela and Chadli were both so so poor, Lamela causes the opposition no problems when plays like today, far too deep and he just takes too much time on the ball. I have a feeling that Chadli will just be one of those players that goes missing every now and then. I would actually like to see Lamela, Eriksen and Kane behind Soldado. Soldados movement and touch bring others in to the game and against City we looked fluid up top with him there. I think Kane deserves to just be given 5 or 6 games to see if he can continue his scoring antics.

I am really worried about CM though, Capoue has looked a little lost since he has been paired with Mason so its a case of who to drop, Mason gives us driving runs however there are big gaps in midfield which leaves Capoue a lot to do. On the flip side, Capoue doesn't seem to have that urgent pressing side to his game. More of a labouring type of player.

I guess the answer is that Poch has an awful lot to do and I am fed up of changing managers and just want to give the guy a few years and see how he gets on.

No, I mean yes, I mean.... Ah fuck it. Who cares whatever it is, we're doing it worst, or best... Or whatever has the most negative connotations. Tottenham are epic at fuck ups.

To be fair other than the scum down the road I think every team in the Premier League seems to be good at changing managers!

In a word? Yes. It's about playing to your players strengths and having a balanced first XI. Under Redknapp we did have superb players but what put it all together was the balance of the team. The relationship between various positions on the field. Redknapp kept it tactically simple.

Two forwards broken down to a target man (Ade, Crouch) paired with an out an out striker (Defoe, Pavlyuchenko) or preferably a forward that drops deep inbetween the lines (VDV) in the Teddy mould.

Midfield four with two wingers and two solid midfielders defensively, or a midfield four with one out and out winger and another wide midfielder who cut inside. In the second type of a bank of four that would allow one of the central midfielders to get forward more.

It was balanced, it was simple and it was easy for the players to know their roles.

I'd say the current problem we have with our 4-2-3-1 is that we don't have the right balance. For a start if we are going to play with inverted wide men both full backs have to be fast, have bundles of stamina, a high work rate AND be capable of delivering dangerous crosses. The two central midfielders? One needs to sit deep and be great at winning the ball, intercepting attacks. The other needs to be brilliant at running with the ball to draw players towards him, retaining possession under pressure and have a good pass on him. The three behind the striker need to have excellent work rate and be able to win plenty of the ball high up the pitch as well as movement and to support the striker. The striker needs to be able to do a bit of everything but most of all must be excellent at holding the ball up.

The new signings are failing for the same reason many of the old ones aren't shining. We aren't playing to the strengths of a lot of the players.

Like I said, mixed results until he's had the time to get them doing what he wants them to do.

We all need a bucket load of patience, I know it's difficult to watch us performing like this.

Stick with it. It's going to be bumpy this season!
