As if he wasn't big enough already :)

Tomas takes big step

Gus Poyet feels Tomas Pekhart has taken a key step in Spain.
The young Czech striker bagged his first goals at senior level with a double in Monday night's 8-0 friendly win against local side Tavernes, our first match action of pre-season.
They were impressive finishes as well - the first a left-foot drive into the top corner from the edge of the box, the second swept home with his right foot from 10 yards.
Tomas, 19, impressed in his first season at Academy level in 2006-07 and was top-scorer for our reserve team last season.
"It's good news for Tomas and he took his goals well," said Gus.
"He's a big striker, he likes to be in the box and when you get into those positions you will get chances- it's then about taking them.
"It's an important milestone for him and that is always the case with goals when you are a striker."

i read that earlyer on the website, its a good read and really does look like they are hoping that Pekhart will make it this year!! he seemed to sotrugle to find his feet in the reserve team last season but still got afew goals, lets hope with him training and being aroudn the first team it will be the push he needs to make the step up and score more in the reserves and take his chances when he gets in and around the first team

Read somewhere that all the scouts really rated him and we managed to snap him up. I saw an interview with him on something like Futbol Mundial and he seemed like a really nice lad as well.

He should be vyiong for the 4th striker spot, and it sounds like he is progressing well.

This season would be nice for him to get some game time, and it'll be good to have a real target man as well to throw on at the end of games. This seven subs thing leaves Juande with two Jokers in his pack, and it wouldn't surprise me if he named Pekhart on the bench in a few games.

I really hope this lad gets a decent chance. I wouldnt be upset of Bent went anmd that left us with 2 big strikers Berba and Peck, and 2 small ones Keano and GDS.

I wish JR could start including this fella in his first 17 & start giving him sub apperance is as many games as possible. Or other option i could think of, to loan him out to newly promoted premiership clubs or clubs in the championship in order for him to gain much needed competetive first team action.

Between the coverage that Pekhart and GDS have been getting on the official site, anyone would think we are about to loose a couple of our stikers

Seriously though, it would soften the blow if we sold both Berba and Keane, but then had:

Bent, GDS, Pekhart + £45m to spend on a 4th striker for next season.

The Mail translates this as:

'Pekhart is Tottenham's striking future says Poyet as Keane and Berbatov head for the exit door'

The club had every opportunity to do this when our regulars decided that they had done their bit by winning the CC .

What a waste that we didn't give any of these guys some pitch time in what were (to the regulars) meaningless matches .

Whilst I agree with what you are saying, we had a unique opportunity last year.

We had won a trophy and qualified for Europe very early on. Which meant Ramas had several months to work on his team, get to know what his players were like and work with formations.

Actually like doing homework, but with the real thing rather than studying from games.

We were safe in the league, we didn't perform that great, but not that badly either.
So whilst, the youngsters would have been good to give experience, I think Ramas needed that time to experiment on the first team players first.

he seems to be highly regarded in Europe as a big prospect

im sure all the young players who are out in Spain will be getting their chances on the bench during the coming season now their is 2 more subs allowed

I just hope we give him time that he needs, usually with lanky players they dont come good until there mid 20s like Crouch and Toni.
