A team of Judases, managed by Pleat - wasn't it him who said "That used to be a football club?' ?

No, that was Keith Burkinshaw and the quote is "There used to be a football club over there." And to be honest, at the time, he had a point about the way we were going. What he didn't realise was that the rest of football was heading that way as well.

Oh and of course, how could I forget - David fucking Pleat. I wouldn't even know where to start on this one. It could be an essay. Suffice to say, for his all around self-serving as DOF and media manipulation, much in the same mould as his peer George Graham.

What a wanker, delivering our best season in the last 26 years.

Right, so you think 86/87 was better than 81/82, 83/84 and 90/91, despite the fact we actually won something in 1982, 1984 and 1991? In which case, Burkinshaw and Venables were obviously getting it all wrong. They should have lost the three cup finals they won and come 3rd in the league every time, so they could equal the great David Pleat! :duh:

That said, I did point out that I'd put Pleat in the Hall of Shame for his job done as DOF rather than his stint as manager.

Firstly, in 26 years means since 81/82. I'm obviously not saying that I wish we hadn't won those two cups, but we were a very consistent team under Pleat in 86/87 and we played some truly magnificent football. We were 8th and 10th respectively in 83/84 and 90/91 and were a million miles away from challenging the teams ahead of us. Overall, I would say 86/87 was a very successful season as we challenged on all fronts.

For all the stats geeks out there, Pleat also has a third highest win percentage of any manager, including his stints as caretaker. You may not think he deserves to be lauded but, at the same there is no way on earth he deserves the level of approbation that loads of people on here think he warrants.

Sorry to be a pedant but 'in the last 26 years' includes 1982.

Well okay, you think it was a better season than one where we won a Uefa Cup and another an FA Cup but I'm sure you'd agree that puts you a very tiny, tiny minority.

I would agree though that was possibly the most entertaining team since 81/82 but not the most effective. And Pleat didn't help in that respect. We had a soft spine, more so after letting Graham Roberts leave and Pleat didn't cover himself in glory with the way he treated him.

We were weak as full back and especially in the cup final against Cov. Particularly poor was Mitchell Thomas who Pleat went back to Luton for. He compared him to one of the best, (if not the best) full backs in the world, at that point, Manuel Amoros. Meawhile we could have easily had Nigel Winterburn from Wimbeldon, who instead went to Arsenal.

The point here is - He inherited a very good team and was tactical astute enough to get it playing some very entertaining football but he made a lot of errors with personnel in the short time he was here and seemed prone to falling out with players: Gough and Roberts being prime examples. He tried to model himself his hero Brian Clough but he just wasn't in his class. I'm far from convinced he would have been the right man to rebuild what was an ageing team. And I think his subsequent managerial performance also suggests that it was probably for the best that he left.

For all the stats geeks out there, Pleat also has a third highest win percentage of any manager, including his stints as caretaker. I strongly believe he does but like with Graham, he was someone who exhibited Machiavellian tendencies and therefore managed to escape criticism while others would have got both barrels.

Anyone foreign, particularly of a middle eastern complexion.

On the dazzling Darren Anderton point, I read in the Independent t'other day that he has the top assists count since the Premiership started, a few ahead of Giggsy. Not bad for a sick note - imagine if he was fit most of the time!

Not true, Giggs has the most assists in the premiership, infact he has 88 more than Anderton so far.

Assists from dead balls, thats where Anderton comes top, 5 more than Giggs.

Also Anderton still holds the most assists in one season as well.

Yeah sorry I'm sure the article did say from dead ball situations! :)

Judas for sure

Also mabizela left the club under poor circumstances -
basically they released him because he was always late or didnt pitch for training, had a bad attitude and gained alot of weight -
Later he went on to be banned form football for 6 months for smoking weed...

Also, Gahly for the shirt incident, and his behaviour since it

Atuba's exit didnt end to well either did it?

Carr just made a bad career decision, thats all IMO

And I'm pretty sure that reserve was one Jamie O'Hara!

Are you sure you're not thinking about the aforementioned Frenchman, Dalmat?
