One thing that never gets mentioned when discussing our striker problems is Eidur Gudjonsen .

Some here say that noone could have forseen our strikers would do so badly after they got us CL .

Surely that discounts Gudjonsen's contribution 2nd half of last season .He got some important goals I remember . Our striking options were reduced by his departure .

Would he have sunk to the level of our current 'strikers' this season ?

Another management misstep ?

I dont understand how nobody could NOT have forseen our strikers were pap. We'd been saying it all last season and this season.

That was me.
I also said letting Guddy go was a mistake.

That was me.
I also said we all knew the strikers needed upgrading in the Summer.
But that no-one could have foreseen that they would have scored qite so few goals.
The two don't actually contradict one another.
There is a huge difference between saying our strikers needed upgrading and saying they would score so few goals, however.
This isn't rocket science. The main reason our strikers have failed to deliver is that none of them could adjust to playing as a lone striker with VDV behind. As seen as we didn't know we were getting VDV until the last day, and even when we did get him, no-one knew until after the event that our sttrikers wouldn't be able to adjust to playing with him, it is literally impossible to say you knew Pav/Crouch/JD would get 16 goals between them. Anyone who does say this is, quite frankly making it up.

You mean like the 20m Levy was prepared to spend on Suarez, but Redknapp thought he was too like Defoe ?

Or the 40+ million he was given to spend on three strikers already proven to be not top drawer.

There are various reasons we are not in the CL, but the single largest reason is our managers inability to coach and prepare teams for all occasions and his tactical ineptitude.

Yep he is so inept compared to your armchair genius.

How do you know Suarez wouldn't have gone to Liverpool anyway?

Another thing people seem to forget is that Harry has had to build twice. Once to stave off the threat of relegation the other to compete for Champions League Football. I think he succeeded both times.

Now he needs to build to compete at the very top consistently....

If he were to be no longer with us, Capello would not be anywhere near the list for me. Simply because he has picked up too many enemies in the media world. He would be knocked at every opportunity.

That aside I dont like the football tactics he uses. Its just not Tottenham.

For me, the manager of any club must know that club inside out and understand what makes that cub work. (see King Kenny) He must also have determination and hunger. Capello does not fit that ethos either.

Klinsmann?
Hoddle?
Poyet?

Mourinho?
Van Gaal?
Hiddink?

Coyle?
Moyes?
Hughes?

Which type of manager would you look toward?

I'd go for the Jurgen / Hod / Poyet type manager. Not necessarily those guys specifically but someone who has THFC soul, for want of a better phrase. BMJ springs to mind, not that it'll ever happen.

I'd take Jose in a heartbeat (Not that I think he'd come). He just oozes success, hunger, and determination. The one thing I'd worry about is his nomadic tendency. He does seem the type of guy that would make it his business to swot up on our history and tradition if he got the job anyway.

In some ways, I want Harry to go, but its not for tactical reasons, or lack of rotation or any of those things. I'm simply fucked off already at the England job hanging over us. I cant take another year of that. If its going to happen I'd rather it happened this summer so we are not in limbo for a year. Surely this has all sorts of knock on effects on the players?

But, having said all that, I'd still rather Harry stayed as our manager for another 3 years at least.

No O'Neill for me. I think he's lost the fire for the game. His spell at Villa just looked like he was tired
