Coopsie’s point is spot on imo. He uses the phrase, “must stick with Mourinho because of Kane backing him.” It’s pretty clear. You’re also making a good point too, Rez, but it’s just adding context re Kane and also agreeing that there’s no “must stick” principle that should be at play.
You're correct. But, like a damn fool, I didn't read the post properly!

Just a quick question for everyone... If you were in Harry's shoes what would you do?

1. Stay for the rest of your career and potentially win a few domestic cups but be the club's and premier league's all-time leading goalscorer? As I'm pretty certain he'll break both records. He would then be the greatest player in our history.

2. Leave and go to City for example and win multiple trophies but not be considered such a legend? He would still be the greatest goal scorer in the premier league though.

I guess it just will come down to what his main motivations are - as it's not a very easy decision to make imo.
Me personally? I am a Tottenham fan through and through. If I was lucky enough to be the player Kane is and was at Spurs I would think I was lucky enough. To be paid enough money that I wouldn't need to worry enough for the rest of my life and set my families future.
All I would want is to play for Spurs and of course England. Spurs are my love to put the shirt of another club on my back would feel dirty.

Having said that who knows in the professional game what can happen? If the only option open to me was the unthinkable could I do it? As a fan no, as a professional I'd have to do what was best for me and become a subject of hate by people who I am one of.

Collecting trolleys at Tescos it is then.

If Harry knew he would win a few domestic cups with Spurs, I think he would no question stay and get all the records
We may win nothing, I am just not sure that City (The only club who could afford him) will
take the risk on him. And with Harry’s latest quotes, I think he will remain with us for the foreseeable future.
Very smart of Harry to say he wants to stay and loves Spurs.

Let's be honest, a footballer wants trophies just like a club but a player has a much more limited lifespan. If the club don't match Kane's ambition then he should be wanting to win titles and the champions League. He has more than given us a fair chance and if he ever chose to leave I would hate him then love him again. The cash would also help sign two top quality players.

There is nothing to say he can't come back in 4 years and play for us again. Teddy played until he was 41 no reason Kane can't last until 36 at least.

The thing is going to another club doesn't mean he will win things either. Going to City won't guarantee that he will win. For all their money they've never got to A Champions League final. Yes they probably have a better chance than we have but it's not guaranteed.

If he moves to City he would win every domestic cup over 2-3 seasons and in all likelihood the champions league at some point.

They will eventually win it - they have too much financial power not to.

I just cannot see him leaving this country, he wants and will get shearers record.

it’ll be City/United or here. I don’t think I’ll he would risk United and it’s much more of a risk for City than Haaland. He’s not young, young and potentially one crunching ankle tackle away from a wasted 150m

Yeah I agree that would probably happen but over the years I have seen the opposite.eg Leeds bringing in loads of top quality players to bolster Champions League and ended up going bust. No that's not going to happen to City, I don't think that they will break the bank to get Kane any way.

I see people are still discussing the possibility of City completely breaking from their transfer structure (which given their success has clearly worked well) of the past decade to sign Kane. Way some of you lot go on I’d guess you’d drive him there yourself too.

No that would be Doherty back to Wolves.

If Harry doesn’t clearly say he’s staying at Spurs for life the media will always be convinced he’s “considering a move”. Nothing in that interview to suggest his head is elsewhere at all. He’s a top professional, and quite clearly, respects the club greatly.

Thus said — he deserves to be playing Champions League football. If we can’t provide that for him for two seasons straight, he’ll likely be thinking about playing elsewhere unless some significant ambition is shown to him (i.e. signing another experienced centre back).

Spoke very well. Said everything he could say to not make the situation worse or be open to ridicule like Bale

Harry is a proper pro

The media are such arseholes. Why don't they ask Bruno Fernandes whether he will be at Ubited next season?

He did say what we are all thinking

"So if by the end of May we’ve finished in the top four and won the Carabao Cup I think everyone will say it’s been a pretty good season"

He would 100% stay if that happened. Think he would also 100% stay if we finished top 4. But may consider leaving if we miss out

Genuinely think he will give us 1 more season with private assurances that the club can let him go next summer if he want it

Ultimately we don't know. There's not enough information for us to either convince ourselves that he's staying or convince ourselves that he's leaving. The information may not exist at all as he may be in precisely the space he says he is - concentrating on this season.

Fuck the media stories - right now, we are target number one for them. The situation at the club is so febrile and knife-edge, that it's grist for the mill for sports journos. They're going to focus on us for the rest of the season. Whatever we do, it will be a media frenzy- win the LC and get Top 4 - can Spurs do anything with it? No LC but Top 4 - is it enough to keep Mou? No LC and no Top 4 - Mou is finished and Kane is leaving. The stories write themselves and most will be speculation wrapped up in fancy language.

He’d be foolish not to be considering his options post-Euros honestly. Genuine world class talent with no trophies (bar maybe a league cup) at (after the Euros) 28 years old. However I don’t see who will be able to afford him/willing to outlay the money Tottenham will want. We’re talking £150mil if not more. I don’t see who’s going to be throwing that at one player amidst Covid. Then you look at each potential buyer. Madrid will be looking at one of the new superstars (Mbappe, Haaland), Lewandowski is still a monster at Bayern, Barca I don’t see sanctioning anymore £100mil + deals after 3 disasters (Dembele, Coutinho, Griezmann) Juve can’t afford him if they’re keeping Ronaldo, PSG have extended Neymar’s deal and want Messi to join him, City won’t break their transfer policy and we don’t do business with United or Chelsea. If we finish top 4 and win the league cup I think this is all moot anyway as I believe that gives him enough impetus to stay. If not however of course he’s going to sit down with his agent and discuss the possibilities. However I don’t see anything materialising unless he really forces it, which I can’t see happening, or if Levy is willing to do a deal at below market value, which is never happening in a million years. He’ll have a look and I’m sure there’ll be plenty of talk and speculation this summer. But I’d be surprised if he’s not a Tottenham player still next season.

It’s going to cost at least £150 million to sign him.
That’s over double City’s record transfer fee paid.
I’m not sure they would ever really consider spending that sort of money on anyone.
Real couldn’t afford him either, nor Barca.
I would say the only team who would pay the sort of money Levy would demand is PSG, and they would have to sell Neymar or M’Bappe to do so.

Personally think there’s little risk of Kane going anywhere this summer, but once that contract enters the final year we will have an issue on our hands.

Here’s the interview from the Telegraph. It doesn’t sound like he’s thinking about going anywhere when reading the whole article and not cherry picked quotes. Although I’m about to do that:

“I’m 27, I still feel like I’ve got plenty more years to go and learn and improve. So when I look at players like that it only gives me more motivation to do it as well. I certainly feel like I’m in a place where I can do that.”

It’s free here for me for some reason, so hopefully others can see it. If not, I’ll copy and paste.
