If we don't get CL that might be the thing that makes his mind up
Agreed. But then what will make our mind up on agreeing to sell for a price less than reflective of his value to us as a top 3 player in world football, in his prime, with 3 years to run on his deal? Or do you think someone will pay what we’d ask? If so, what makes you think that when weighing up the other forwards who’d be available at similar amounts and the clubs with that kind of money who he’d want to go to? Interested (genuinely) to hear what you think as so far that question remains unanswered.

Kane's been at his peak this season and the football has still been shit. I'm not a Jose hater but I'd be absolutely amazed if that turns around.

Regardless of how good Kane is we can't pander to an individual player. If the board is sounding out Nagelsmann then they can't be happy but sounds to me like the goalposts are being shifted because Champions League football appeared to be the minimum but now we're going to accept less than that so long as Kane is happy? Doesn't sound ideal to me. It is all conjecture mind you.

If we don't get Champions League then I still believe we need a change regardless of whether Kane is happy about it or not. We should make him sit tight unless his agent can get him a move for a couple hundred million.

Absolutely this.

However brilliant Harry is, the only thing that will make us truly happy is the team playing well and winning. If keeping Harry means having to keep Jose and if that in turn means the team continuing to play in the same unsatisfying style and with the same patchy results, then we have to bite the bullet. The team comes first. Always.

Of course, it isn't actually a binary choice and it is quite possible that Jose could rebuild well and have us challenging for major honours next season. In which case, problem solved.

But which option is the more likely to take us where we want to go? That's the decision to be made. And it is imperative that it remains the club's to make. Not that of any individual player, however loved and valued.

I think Kane stays irrespective of manager this summer. Purely because I can’t see any club sticking the best part of £200m on the table. The news of Jose staying, however, is very depressing. The fact that Kane is probably gonna have had his best ever premier league season in terms of total goal contributions (providing he stays fit) and we’ve still been woeful tells you all you need to know.

Just gonna say, because I can't agree with a few earlier posts on the matter, that I will be no more okay were Harry to join Man City than were he to join Man Utd. I dislike them both. I might even dislike City even more.

If Harry must leave, then I fervently hope that it is for the continent.

I happen to think that Bayern would be a good destination for him. He'd be an ideal replacement for an ageing Lewandowski and he'd be guaranteed goals and trophies. Not sure that they would pay the asking price, though. Bayern tend to prefer other German clubs rolling over and offering their best players in exchange for a tummy rub.

Would Bayern really replace Lewandowski this summer? He's got 35 goals and 6 assists in 25 league games. I think it's fair to say he'll be good enough to compete at the very top level for at least a couple more seasons.

You're absolutely correct and I didn't mean to suggest otherwise. Besides which, I don't believe that there's the slightest chance that Harry will be allowed to leave this summer anyway.

Neverthelessless, I do think that Bayern and Kane would be a good fit in terms of their respective needs,.

He'd also be the ideal replacement for Benzema at Real.

It's pretty obvious imo, no CL this season and he will want out but won't be sold. Next season realistically a trophy and CL required or he's not extending and he's gone.

Has anybody made the point about no clubs being able to afford what we'd be asking? Or how about that the all time top tottenham scorer being the bigger accolade? On the other hand, you could argue that someone of Kanes ability deserves to be playing at the best clubs in the world and hoarding trophies............. Or do we want to spend the next 6 days going over the same points but in a slightly different way?

6 days? These points will be repeated until he leaves or retires.

I wonder if Alan Shearer regrets spending his peak years (and seeing out his career) at Newcastle United instead of Manchester United.

He’s said publicly he doesn’t. Maybe in private it’s different. But he’s a god on Tyneside.
In that case, I subsequently wonder whether that lack of regret is in part due to a solitary league winners medal he'd previously won stacked against what could have been numerous league, Cup and European medals.

It’s funny, he’s a big pusher of ‘Kane has to leaves’, yet when doing his punditry it’s always his goals and records he brags about, not the one league title he won beforehand. Lineker brags more about Leicester winning the league in 2016 then Shearer does about actually winning it himself in 95.

Interesting. Maybe one could begin to argue that the glory of records has greater longevity than the glory of "titles". Do Spurs fans talk of Greaves' medals or his goals?

Kane has been involved in 2 title pushing teams and a cl final with us.. Not to mention fa cup semi finals. At points he has had a bloody good team around him. Obviously he can't drag others up to his quality but It's a shame he hasn't got the charactor to galvanise a team to drive them forward and battle. I think during his time with us we have missed somebody to do that. He will stroll into a team and win things no doubt but only because it will be one of the best teams in club football.
