Man, how have you been here since 2012 and not know that our resident ITK's, or those that may share info have blue backgrounds in the transfer section?

It's to make their posts stand out so you can skim through and potentially not miss any juicy nuggets.
Problem with that is you still miss H88's posts 😔
(And probably some others)

Spurs have not won anything since Harry Kane was promoted to the senior squad. So just maybe it's time we all move on in our lives from the will he/won't he 'do the dirty on us' soap opera and sell-up. The mighty Tottenham Hotspur can then get back to winning in style. 😉

Responding to WLB’s ITK here rather than the ITK thread to keep formation chat out of that thread — I’d prefer that we go for a top-class LW who suits Ange’s setup than another striker.

We’ve seen in preseason that Ange likes his wingers to stay out wide rather than cut inside, and for me that means Sonny should move up top. Between Richy, Son, and Veliz we are covered up front but we need a top class player to replace Son on the left.
Richy is toilet, shouldn't be anywhere near our starting 11

Fair point, but it was argued by almost every fan, 'expert', and so on at the time with the same vehemence and certainty with which people are now maintaining Kane could be just as effective in any system, despite lacking the physical attributes for said system. I'd like to ask again: which successful team of the past few years has won with a major player being as slow and press-free as Kane? Yes, he has the incredible speed of thought a la Teddy, but the game is getting more and more athletic each season, and for everything that Kane brings us, we are also losing something in both the utter dependency on a single player and the lack of 10 outfield players pressing properly in unison.
I mean I don’t even know what to say at this point. How about every single Madrid team? Or are you saying Modric, Ronaldo and benzema are pressing monsters? Why do you think Guardiola wanted Kane so badly? It’s not even as if Kane is lazy and hasn’t succeeded in a pressing team before. We will be much worse in the short term if Kane leaves. Just face it

I bet Argentina wish they hadn’t built their team round Maradona in 86 eh? An elite player is the hardest thing to find. Good managers will work out how they use them. With someone as good and as flexible as Kane it isn’t even hard. Of course he’s a guaranteed starter, it would be mental not to pick him
Can't believe Northern Ireland never won the World Cup with Georgie Best ;)

Remember messaging my now wife drunkenly about how excited I was when Kane first broke through. Football does weird things but there will be more heroes and new talents to come. Will miss him a lot though. 🙏

Surely with Solomon, Son and Gil all preferring the left and considering Kulu’s downturn in form last season and his ability to play AM wouldn’t a RW be more of need.

But in general I agree that if we were going to spend big on one player then a wide player with good dribbling ability might make more sense. If we were going to spend big that is.
I’m not convinced by Gil and doubt he has a future in the Premier League. Solomon can play on both sides (and indeed may be better on the right because Ange’s wide men don’t cut inside), and as I said I think Son is better used up front than out wide in Ange’s setup. I’d be fine with a RW but in general I think the greater need is on the left.

Almost 40 years ago, where the game was slower and there was less requirement for players to work/press off the ball non-stop

It was a tongue in cheek response, but you can’t seriously be endorsing the idea that Kane can’t play for an elite team because he doesn’t press well enough

The more I think about it the more it makes sense for us to cash in if they meet the £100m asking price. If we keep Kane, as soon as we get to January the likes of RM, Barca and Man City will be in his ear whether officially or unofficially. Unless we're top of the league or something crazy he's not going to sign an extension by then and regardless of how we do he's still going to be tempted by those clubs. The level of interest will be insane and he'll also have the pick of the English clubs.

The chances of him extending I think are especially slim considering this, so we're essentially paying £100m to loan him for a season.

If we can bring in a top class winger and Tapsoba with the cash then i'm for it.

Fair point, but those two teams are jam packed full of incredible players - a situation that I think it's fair to say we don't find ourselves in. I totally agree that Kane isn't lazy and yes, he produced well in Poch's pressing team, but that was a good few years ago now and we need to move on, in my opinion. Short of a miracle, Kane will be leaving this season or next, so I would rather we got the cash in so we can at least pretend that we might spend it effectively, rather than the nauseating shitshow of letting him go on a free to United.

I’ve got no issue with anything you’ve said there. I don’t agree (I’d keep him for a year and shoot for the stats) but that’s not the same thing as arguing he doesn’t fit.

What options are out there for that position though?

Kvara at Napoli in an ideal world but he's apparently not for sale. Imagine similar with Leao.

Feels like we may have already missed a trick with Mousa Diaby.

How many other obvious options are out there?

Taking a punt on Chiesa maybe? Not sure he'd choose us regardless.

Not saying that at all.

There are 2 sides to this.

We will have more energy and be a nightmare to play against with a more youthful and fluid front 3. Especially of the CF stays in the front line.

But we will lose a cutting edge and a player who is not only a elite level finisher but can play some fantastic defence-splitting passes.

Kane and Son have both let the opposition walk past them at times when the front line should be making it difficult for the opposition to progress the ball and put pressure onto us.

Don't get me wrong our inability to actually Pass through the press has been a bigger issue but if Kane is going to want to drop so deep he is in front of our defence at times and not be there to press the back line from the off we will have a few issues.

Perhaps not enough to really hurt us as Kane is always a threat.

I'm happy with the 'agree to disagree' impasse :D

1 week before the season.

Great preparation as usual.
To be fair us getting this sorted 1 week before the season starts would actually be ‘early’ by our standards!

We’ve had Modric sagas run into then first few games of the season and Berbatov was sold on deadline day I seem to remember.
