But no one cares about fans viewpoints though, you can walk into any pub in the country, or any message board in the world, and hear the viewpoint of someone who's seen thousands of games and they are, by definition, going to be extremely limited in comparison to someone who's been involved at a professional level since their late teens, no matter how important or educated the observer thinks they are, they will only ever be an observer.Well no, scholes and Phil Neville are boring uninsughtful and thick as two planks, shearer too. All incredible successful footballers and none particularly dislikeable.
In terms of knowing about the game, yes I think a fan (or in my prior point, journalist) who has watched thousands of games at multiple levels over several decades is just as qualified as an ex player to give an opinion, it just happens that the opinion is from a different viewpoint. Joey was talented enough and athletic enough to have a football career, that doesn’t mean his opinions are any more valid than an educated observer with a genuinely strong passion and interest, and he certainly shouldn’t be belittling someone else’s view just because they haven’t played the game.
He’s no more than a school ground bully who people mistake for being insightful just because he goes against the grain.
Its amazing how deluded some fans are in this repect, although many on here will find that tough to read.
