It’s a wonderful place full of sensible opinions and threads about Poch looking at himself hard in a reflective manner.
Okay you can stop that now m8

His comments seem perfectly sensible to me and nothing to panic about. We all know that he loves the club and ideally wants to achieve success here, but ultimately he wants to be successful and if it can't be here then it'll have to be somewhere else. If the club keep moving forwards like we have been then we have nothing to worry about.
So, you’re telling me we aren’t selling him during this window?

If (big if) we up the wages and spend a metric fuckton this summer, and manage to hold on our players, and settle in at the new Lane, we'll be set up for being next-best after City, [
If I had to bet, then no, I don't reckon it will happen. But it's possible, if we are determined to make a statement, and going by recent ITK.I agree with your edit, but the above bit is just so beyond the realms of possibility, I dunno why people get their hopes up
So you reckon we’ll up our wages significantly, spend a fuckton on new players AND hit the ground running at the new stadium? I can see one of those things happening, two if we’re very lucky.
But even if all 3 happened, the idea that we’d be second best set behind City is an incredibly bold statement. Not to mention that if we’re out of champions league next season, which is more likely than unlikely, there will be players beyond a pay rise keeping them here

Tottenham striker Harry Kane 'third most expensive in world', says CIES study
CIES' projected transfer values (in euros)
1. Neymar (PSG) -213m
2. Lionel Messi (Barcelona) -202.2m
3. Harry Kane (Tottenham) -194.7m
4. Kylian Mbappe (PSG) -192.5m
5. Paulo Dybala (Juventus) -174.6m
6. Dele Alli (Tottenham) -171.3m
7. Kevin de Bruyne (Man City) -167.8m
8. Romelu Lukaku (Man Utd) -164.8m
9. Antoine Griezmann (Atletico Madrid) -150.2m
10. Paul Pogba (Man Utd) -147.5m
How is Lukaku on there?
Turning point there I feel, 1st time he seems to have even openly acknowledged the possibility of leaving, starting to soften his stance and prepare us... Crazy wages elsewhere still has to be the main reason, they go hand in hand anyway, highest wage payers get the trophies normally, so effectively saying wants more money too...
As much as having Kane on the field, the biggest motivator for Levy to keep him happy here is that we won't attract the top end sponsorship deals and tie ups that he's looking for in the new stadium without bonfa fide marquee players - and he is unquestionably one of the biggest in the world now. There is a reason the super clubs are currently prepared to spend £200m for a player - it's because the marketing opportunities that come with those super stars are infinite. It's not just selling a few shirts like the old days, it's club partnerships, online advertising, summer tours. And having Kane, I believe, is the clearest motivator for Levy et al to really push the boat out this summer. He's legitimately one of the best strikers in the world - in the top 5 imo - and any club would want him, even Norwich, and he cost us nothing (in transfer fees). Inevitably we'll get offers for him (almost certainly have already) and like it or not we're vulnerable to losing him in a way that City/Barca/Real wouldn't be. The team is built around him and the fans adore him. But if we don't show ambition, he will leave. So it's now or never.
Absolutely. He's the kind of player you can build the club around, and on top of that he's home grown. As much as having Kane on the field, the biggest motivator for Levy to keep him happy here is that we won't attract the top end sponsorship deals and tie ups that he's looking for in the new stadium without bonfa fide marquee players - and he is unquestionably one of the biggest in the world now. Keeping Kane is also sound business if Levy has his eyes wide open.
It seems we get these kind of promises every year from the board though don't we. "Poch has a warchest", "Levy will break the wage structure", "We'll get players in for pre-season this time".I have a feeling that everyone's waiting on what happens in the summer, from what I've heard it certainly feels like there's gonna be wind of change in regards to contracts and wages.
"Become the biggest club in world football" We are a long way off from becoming the biggest club in our own league so that's a dream that's not going to happen I'm afraid. How though? Eventually we will have to match them because if we don't they will just keep spending until they form a squad that will win trophies more often than not.
Sure we might win the odd trophy here and there if we continue doing things the way we are but if we want to become the biggest club in world football then the only way is to compete financially in my opinion.
We need to stop the fixation with just spending more money.
I don't care how we do it, as long we improve the weak areas in our squad. We win trophies by having very little to no weaknesses. If we focus on ourselves and not our opponents, we will win trophies. I just think in recent years we've still shot ourselves in the foot too much and we've come up short as a result.
What DL has to be prepared to do is ensure our weaknesses are covered. In some cases that may be being bold enough to splurge £50m on a player who could make all the difference.
