The biggest problem is that we can't attract the players good enough to replace Kane without CL football. If Kane wants to leave then he needs to help us back into the CL this season so he can leave next year. The best players we can sign right now are early to mid 20s players with potential. Those players will need at least a few years before they can reach his level so it makes no sense for us to sell Kane this window. I don't care if Kane is unhappy at the start of the season, he will get his shit together after the window closes especially with a world cup ahead. Keep him now and if we get back into the CL let him go if he still wants out. At least with CL football we can attract developed top quality players so we can let him go.

The team has been in a bad way and on a negative trajectory for a while now. Since the start of 2020 we were in relegation form. The Carabao Cup run last year was extremely fortunate in terms of opposition and we were totally outclassed in the final. If anything that defeat probably made him realise how far off winning we currently are.

I haven't look it up, but I'm pretty sure we had the most PL points in 2020 (if not, then near) and ended it very nearly at the top of the league. We certainly were at the start of December 2020.

If he does stay for the extra year I think there will be a very lukewarm reception to him..no more chants of one of our own etc

I suspect that is a closely guarded secret.

Monday would be 3 weeks since the Euros. But, if he is just thinking about sitting down and "talking" to Spurs next week, I don't think he'll be reporting for training on Monday.

At this stage, I would be shocked if he were ready to play against Man City - which will obviously add fuel to the fire.

But he cant just sit and talk all week can he? Its fine for me if he talks but I also want to see him running around with the other lads with his football boots on.
When the other England lads starts to train with their clubs there cant be no excuse for Kane not to train.
The situation will turn ugly on him fast if he dont start to train when he should.

Does make me wonder if all this spending is the Kane money? I know we’ve had ITK saying it’s not, but there’s too much smoke IMO.

That was a typo on my part, I meant since the start of 2021. Apologies. Last two years have melded into one for me.

It does seem like all the noise around him and us has worn him down over the years and now he just wants the easy way out. I'm sure he'll be happy with his decision it it happens but he's walking away from a unique situation (legit club legend) to be just another player at City. I'm sure Berba doesn't care too much that he's all but a speck in Man Utds history.

I'm sure one day while looking at the numerous league and cup winners medals that adorn a wall in his mansion Kane will think to himself with regret that he would have been better off staying and becoming a legend at a club that won the League Cup 13 years ago.

I don't want Kane to go, won't wish him luck if he does as I don't want City winning anything but I'd understand if he does go.

The majority of footballers don't think like fans. They view football the same way most of us view our own jobs. Who among us would opt to stay with our current employers when someone else is offering you a better salary and better career prospects?

Well then don't write in absolute terms. Use qualifiers. I "think" or "reckon" or "suspect" or "expect" such-and-such "might" happen.

Premonitions are just superstition.

Dear David,

This post isn’t meant in a nasty way, but I feel I have to highlight something to you in as kind a way as possible.

I’ve just been scanning through this thread and noticed you’ve criticised at least two people for having an opinion, for hypothesising, for presenting their point in ‘absolute terms’.

Whilst this normally makes me smile and keep going, this time I had to mention something you yourself posted only a couple of hours ago, in this very thread. You wrote;

“The only thing that could reduce it, other than a severe injury, is for him to perform badly next season. It's not in his personality to do that. He's too driven.”

By your own standards, I would ask how do you know what is in Harry Kane’s head, do you know him, have you spoken to him? Do you know how Harry will react if met with a non-compliant Daniel Levy, are you sure his disappointment won’t affect his drive and effort? Maybe you should have used a qualifier such as I “suspect” before your statement.

Apologies if this seems a bit critical but amongst the wholly excellent posts you make, posts like the above are not necessary or pleasant. This is a football fan forum where everyone has a right to express an opinion, even if said opinion isn’t wholly agreeable with others.

We all slip up sometimes, but that’s how we learn, especially if others offer their alternative opinion in a nice way.

Have a good evening mate.

I'm still more annoyed than I should be that he didn't acknowledge the club's birthday wishes while seemingly including literally everybody else's in his IG stories. If his superagent controls his social media then it's at best childish (and expected, based on his general levels of competence) but if it was up to Harry himself then It's a really classless thing to do.

‘All this spending’... we’re currently at a profit with Toby/foyth out, Gollini/Gil in ?

If he is as desperate as he seems then that is exactly what he wants. If the fans turn on him it adds more pressure to the club to accept an offer from Man City and likely accept a lower offer than initially planned.

It's part of the reason why I haven't fully turned on him just yet. Disappointed in him for sure but I don't want him to get what he wants at the detriment of the club. If he goes it has to be huge money.

Mate we had 2 league title challenges, CL final, Numerous League cup finals aswell we showed plenty of ambition 18 rough months and he's trying to ditch us. Yes Levy has done alot wrong especially during those 18 months but when shit got hard he wants to fuck off

Harry has said over and over (and I appreciate we have to take his words with a pinch of salt) that if the club continues to show / match his ambitions then he’ll stay. We’ve been piss poor, champions league run aside, since February 2019 and I think that stems back to a lack of ambition being shown when we were at the top and challenging. That was the time to capitalise, and we f**ked it.

I fully understand why he would leave, especially after all of the near misses and our recent decline. He is in a unique position in that he is on the cusp of being an absolute legend of a big club. Hundreds of players have PL winners medals, not many have that level of status. He's clearly made his choice it seems unfortunately for us.

Even if he stays now his legacy has been tarnished somewhat.

I think end of the window we’ll suddenly hear that City made an offer we can’t refuse and then that’s when it’ll all go through. The club will obviously say not for sale but I don’t think Charlie Kane got that £160m fee from thin air. 9 times out of 10 a player acts like this, they get their move eventually, better to just accept it sooner rather than later imo.

mate, we’re very like to drop 50m on Romero, 20m on tomiyasu, plus another CB and maybe vlahovic?

We’ve also got (with the same amount of certainty as those additions) Davinson Sanchez, Moussa Sissoko, Harry Winks, Serge Aurier, and CCV yet to be sold. In the end, we are going to be pretty low in the net spend category. Especially if we have a naming rights and training kit sponsor potentially in the works.
