If we “push on” he’s gone next season regardless. I think it’s 2-3 times more likely he joins Poch next season on a free than there is him signing a new contract with us (Even if by some miracle we got top 4)

Whilst I agree, you're assuming Poch will even be there next season. They literally went though two managers we'd have at this club last season.

then we lose all leverage? Great
We have none if Kane decides to stay for another year and leave for free.

I just wanted to speculate about their reaction because Kane stating that would ignite the fans and set them on the current leadership.

Brilliant from Harry Kane this deadline now.

Respecting the Club/fans by being reasonable but also forcing Levy to show his true colours or change his ways.

Bayern I think are just massively deluded. They simply just think that we'll have to sell and will drop price because of the contract. And that because they're in the CL and we're not that we'll just capitulate.

True. I wouldn’t be shocked if he gets sacked before the seasons end or next summer. My money is on here’s there for at least the start of the next season, though. And god help us if they actually smash it this year. You know he’ll be on the blower to Kane saying “we can win the league next year if you join”

Kane on a free - I'd be surprised if he doesn't have a lot of options.
Not many teams will want to sign a 31-yo player on a long-term deal. Add on to that teams that won't be looking for a striker.

It's going to be a smaller number than people (including Charlie) think.

I don't think he will go to Arsenal.

Chelsea - maybe, but they have a young striker they like now, and linked to Valhovic

United - possible, but just spent big on a young striker - if he develops this season, United probably would not be in the market.

City - Unlikely - they have signed 2 players over 30 in the last 10 years - Bravo and Caballero - their MO is to spend big on young players. Even if Haaland leaves, I think they will go with Alvarez and a new young striker.

Liverpool - unlikely given all the forwards they have in their squad, and the style Klopp wants to play

Newcastle - might be most likely non-Spurs team in PL - but does Kane want to move to Newcastle?

Bayern - lets see if they sign a striker this year
Barcelona - maybe as a Lewendowski replacement - but then will Kane want to leave PL being that much close to record?
Madrid - not likely, with Mbappe coming in, and Haaland also rumored

Italian teams? - I don't think its likely.

So, you are probably only talking 2-3 clubs - and Spurs could still be in the mix. it is true he could go to loads of other smaller teams, but those teams won't fit his criteria of being able to realistically compete for trophies.

Do find it amusing reading the Bayern perspective though. The same offer everyone else is dismissing as not enough yesterday, this guy is hyping beyond belief. Just because you put an exclamation mark, doesn’t make the offer any bigger, fella!!!!!!!!!!
I think they haven't done their research on Daniel Levy.they are used to bullying Bundesliga clubs into submission so that's what they're trying here.

The only reason we're all so confident this is nonsense is because we all know what he is like.

They're going to despise him by the end of the summer. Remember how annoyed Guardiola got?

I mean he does say they are going to up it again? At the end of his tweet.

He’s probably pushing for the £100 million or more now though isn’t he, but they don’t want to pay it. It’s on them to come to the party.
I think that's fair enough. In my opinion, £100m should be the absolute minimum we should accept, not the starting point for our negotiations. If Bayern isn't willing to pay that, they not only risk other clubs competing for his signature next summer, but also risk demonstrating to Kane that they don't value him as much as he deserves. Their reported offer is rather insulting to Kane imo, so if it's close to their highest offer rather than being an intentionally low-ball offer as a negotiation tactic, his desire (or more accurately willingness, as I don't think they'd be one of his top three picks next summer) to join them may decrease significantly.

He’s done it so many times and proved he doesn’t care about results on the pitch while these types of deals are going on. We only need to look back to getting Porro in. It dragged out all window and we got him at the end rather than paying up earlier on and getting the player in to win us points. Performance on the pitch seems to come secondary to him than getting the deal he wants on a transfer.
I thought the Porro deal dragged on because:
1) Sporting (and Porro) wanted the deal to be completed after their cup final. We were only going to expedite the transfer ahead of the final by making it financially worth both Sporting and Porro's while (significantly higher transfer fee + juicy signing bonus, respectively). How many millions would it have been worth to wrap up the deal circa 2 weeks earlier? (Clearly more millions that Levy was willing to spend, which I get because we were already overpaying - see my next point).
2) Sporting massively inflated their asking price due to it being mid-season (Sporting said this themselves). It was therefore quite understandable that we tried to haggle, as we could have signed him for significantly less only 5 months later.

It’s infuriating. I remember the same discussions going on on SC a decade ago and nothing has changed!
In the past, Levy would have made us wait until the summer to save money, but he instead caved to sign the player that his manager wanted. I'm not sure why this deal is repeatedly cited as Levy refusing to change, when he actually deviated from his usual approach in an attempt to give the manager what he wanted. I would guess that we did end up paying at least £10m more than we would have needed to this summer.

“If he does stay put this summer, Kane is prepared to negotiate a contract extension with the club during the early months of the upcoming season if they show significant progress on the pitch under Postecoglou.”
Hard to tell if this a PR line or there is truth to it. What is certain there is no way we convince him to stay if we don’t properly invest in some defenders as we will be torn apart without them. If there is truth to it then Levy needs to loosen the purse strings and pay the money needed to put the squad in the best possible shape…. Which we all know won’t happen.
This could be the dream scenario for us, Ghost. Kane forces Levy to pony-up for the CB upgrades we’ve needed for 3 years. In return, Kane signs a one-year extension (perhaps with a buyout clause?). We get Kane’s goals for another year, quality CBs, AND a fee towards his replacement/an additional forward next summer. A long shot, I know, but for me, that would be the perfect outcome.

I've made similar arguments in the past, but I think in reality reason will take a back-seat.

A world class number 9 going on a free will have all sorts of clubs crawling out of the woodwork and finding ways to finance it or fit him into their plans.

I reckon there will almost certainly be clubs offering both a better financial package and a higher chance of winning trophies than we can offer Kane.

Agree, they don’t seem to realise they need a striker more than we do. They don’t get Kane and they’ve got Choupo-Moting who’s not going to win them the UCL.

Vlahovic to Chelsea rules that out for them so they’ve really put all their eggs in the Kane basket. They really don’t have the leverage they think they do.

Let's not kid ourselves, Kane on a free has carte blanche on where he wants to go with absolutely no shortage of suitors.

There are essentially 2 scenarios:

1. Agree a fee with Bayern and sell Kane this summer for £80m-100m. Re-invest that money into CB’s, a true DM destroyer, and a forward who can play across front 3 positions. Club moves on.

2. Keep Kane this season and still buy a CB, a DM and sell deadwood this transfer window. Kane stays and with the new players we improve this season. Next summer is still under a cloud unless Kane signs a new contract during the season.

In either scenario we need to invest in the squad and buy a CB at least and also defensive midfield depending on outgoings. This is where we have failed already this window as that CB is essential to our season plans and outcome. We were absolutely terrible in defence last season and also in midfield after Bentancur was injured. We don’t have an imposing midfielder who is strong in duels, mobile and robust. Clearly this must be noticed by the recruitment team as a gap in our overall team skill set and characteristics.

Unless we address these 2 glaring weaknesses we will not significantly improve defensively. Højbjerg should be sold and upgraded, I like him as a player but when Bentancur is back and hopefully finds form we won’t need him as much as we have players who can do a similar job.

Also With regards to Bayern they were in a similar position last summer with Lewandowski and eventually sold him for €50m to Barca. He was their main man, main striker, biggest threat and goal guarantee. Kane is similar but younger than Lewi was last summer when sold, but to our club he means more and is homegrown which counts for a lot as quality HG in the Prem are scarce. They really need to pay up given the current market or walk away and concede.

However, instead of waiting for this outcome we should be buying the essential players to plug the gaps in our squad - they are required regardless and it’s imperative we have them in now otherwise we aren’t bridging the gap to top 6 or top 4. Aston Villa have had a much better window and got their first targets, a lesser club but done very good business in a far better way after being back in Europe.

We just need to get on with. If he's going, then get it done, if he's not then announce he's staying and stop all the chatter.

Not sure who is leading on this (the invisible Munn?) but either shit or get off the pot.
Isn't it Bayern who need to shit or get off the pot? They seem to be offering far less than we are willing to accept...

We will see. But, I think the number will be smaller than most expect.

Its already a small number - given what Kane wants - to compete for top trophies.

Add to that, his age, and wage and contract demands.

Add to that the teams that have good strikers/forwards already - and won't want to pay £600k/week for a rotational striker.

Add to that - if he stays at Spurs this year - he will be that much closer to the PL record, which then becomes a bigger factor for him next summer.

It's 2-3 teams - at best. And, if he stays, Spurs would be one of those teams.

(And this all assumes that Kane does not see a drop-off in performance this season, or suffer a significant injury - if either of those things happen - there won't be a market for Kane outside of Tottenham)
