Why does everyone assume this is Charlie Kane feeding this story to pressure Levy into selling now or spending? Tapsoba and VDV aren't going to convince Kane to stay. He wants CL football now, if he can. That's why he wants Bayern rather than taking his pick in 12 months.

It's far more likely the club have put this out to get Bayern to pay up quicker.
That's not what people are saying. The argument is the following:

Spend £80m on new CBs that we would need if Kane was here or not. Then chances are we are not a shambles at the back anymore, have a successful season with visible progress being made and a high chance of a CL finish. Would Kane stay in that scenario? It's a slim chance, but possible imo. He's not stupid, if the signings we've made work out, then next summer we might not even need a single first team player to be brought in to challenge for trophies if he signed that contract.

I think it's odd that people are viewing this as Kane putting pressure on Spurs. I wouldn't be surprised if it's the other way around, and we were more than happy for him to put this out, which also puts pressure on Munich. Kane isn't stupid; he wants to have a good long-term relationship with the club whatever happens in the transfer window. He doesn't want to sit around and move on Aug 31 anyways. I'm sure he wants it done one way or the other ASAP.

I think it's clear that Bayern wouldn't be his first pick if he was a free agent and so he's pretty relaxed about staying here for a year, especially if the start of his season isn't disrupted gelling with new team mates

I am suprised more players don't set deadlines, I mean who really wants to be changing clubs after the season starts anyway. Less so if you have 1 year left on your contract.

His agent probably made it clear he would be interested in a move to Bayern, but the reality is I don't think he is that bothered. He probably knows that Bayern won't pay up/Levy won't accept.

Also if Spurs are offering Kane 400k a week, the expectation would be Bayern would have to offer more as well, which would make it a very expensive transfer for them.

As for price as well, bidding should have started at 100m, Bayern have been taking the piss. Good on Kane for setting this deadline, it is the right thing to do.

Feels more like pressure on Bayern, but also indicates that he wouldn't want a mid season transfer - now or never.

Perhaps I'm reading too much into this but Kane's stance seems to me that it will facilitate the completion of the deal to Bayern.

The new narrative provides Levy with an angle to insist to the clubs of the players we're trying to buy that he's not using the Kane transfer money, undermining their ability to hold us to ransom. From Bayern's perspective both Kane's supposed willingness to sign a new contract if Ange does well and the supposed deadline provide an impetus for them to raise their offer one last time.

We can wrap up deals for the CBs and young forward over the next two weeks while posturing as though we may keep Kane, and Bayern can meet our valuation without losing face because we've maintained strong negotiating leverage. I wouldn't be surprised if the deal were more-or-less done behind closed doors and this is all orchestrated to create the necessary narratives to facilitate the deals that need to be done.

I think either scenario is certainly possible.

My fear now - We will sign a new CB soon - and people will take that as a sign we are showing ambition to Kane - when we are just spending the Kane money instead...

Only ITK I recall is Trix saying he thinks it's 50:50 now (or that might have been Lemar), Herc seems to also be unsure after thinking he was going on Sunday and H88 hasn't heard anything new either. Seems pretty much in the dark atm but I think it's mostly as people don't know what Bayerns next move will be their end.

Or worse, they're spending the Kane money before a deal is done and Kane sees it as showing ambition, decides to stay and we go bankrupt!

I don't fear that.

If Kane has no intention of signing a new deal - and whatever the press, I think it's unlikely he will - then we should be selling him, albeit obviously only at the right price. i.e. £90m+
