Serious question.

What does Harry Winks do?

He receives the ball and then passes it back or sideways.

Can he tackle?

Does he dribble?

Good in the air?

Is he a goal threat?

Someone enlighten me please

Someone will be in here with some images and pie charts of Winks forward passes any minute now

We’re very poor at producing youth. Kane has made up for most of our youth since Ledders and he pays for the academy alone. But look at players in other teams even the rich oil money ones coming through.

Absolutely spot on. This is a huge problem, and one that you'd think Levy would be all over given potential in sell on profits. We apear to be content in churning out mediocre players, like Winks, and taking medicore profits when they inevetiably join the likes of WBA, Crystal Palace etc.

The effect of having a young star (stars) coming through the ranks is massively underestimated in terms of what it does for moral of fan base and team and club reputation.

Hopefully we have a few gems lining up to prove me wrong.

Think thats a really good analysis. Though even more baffling Winks played 90 minutes and Ndombele 0.

If you look at where he turns back in at 2.39 though, it's hardly like he's blessed with loads of options - Reguillon makes no effort to give him a decent angle on the left and the rest of the midfield is hiding as well. Yes, Winks is guilty of a lack of courage but I'd say loads of our other players are just as guilty as well.

not gonna lie i will be even more pissed off with that decision if N'Dombele starts against Sheff Utd as it will just prove what an absolute colossal wrong decision it was to start WInks over him on Sunday.

Surely it is a problem in the whole team by now, Kane aside and maybe even Lamela aside, who wants the ball. Its the wrong mentality in the club. Started in the late Poch days, progressed by Mou's defensive approach and first rule to not make a mistake.
But it shows we still lack so much leadership and courage on the pitch. Strong characters who take responsibilities.

Had a nightmare that Winks scored in a pre season match in front of our new manager doing just enough to keep him at the club for the new season.

Part of the reason Jose was sacked was because he wanted Winks and Dele gone and Levy doesnt. So they will both be here next season, sadly.

Winks clearly isn't a DM or deep lying player he might have better success playing higher up field however his goals and assists ain't good has never been good. Unfortunately he isn't good enough and I totally blame him because he opts far to much on safety first doesn't have the bottle to receive the ball on the half turn.

He is the typical average Joe footballer short back and sides. As a Tottenham graduate I have respect and hope he has a successful career but I can't see him now being a success at Tottenham his skill sets are to limited.

Yeah his actions are not in a vacuum. Most our players are hiding, or not making good angles to receive the ball. Definitely a combination of lack of confidence, and 18 months of not being coached to play the ball through midfield regularly.

All we seem to produce is a mason winks type player it’s baffling ! Also none of them ever come through seem to have any sort of strength even the ones now like Harvey white etc another mason winks type

Very true, I was going to make this point earlier. No idea what we do in the academy, but we always seem to bring through the same type of CMs. Weak, powder puff, nice and tidy ball players, ok technically, but not good enough technically to make up for their shortfalls. Can't score, can't assist.

It can't be a coincidence. It must be the way we train them and the profile of player we look to develop.

It’s definitely not a coincidence like you said ! You can go back to carroll .....Carroll.... mason .... winks .... skipp .... white ! Look at the players Chelsea produce compared to ours! Hopefully skipp is a different story though

Yeah hopefully Skipps bucks the trend but like you say, Chelsea academy players look seriously talented.

Look at Foden, that is what a generational talent looks like and what it takes to break through at a top club. Not Winks.

Good lord. From 2:07 in we see the real Harry Winks. WOW.

That's very well said from Carra, agree with it all. Nothing on Mason but on the players. Need to sell a lot of them, and I can't go quick enough.
Jamie absolutely spot on. We are absolutely gutless in finals which must be a psychological thing. Why would Mason pick winks is beyond me, but I hope he sees that and drops him immediately.
