We'll never know how much his ankle injury affected him. I remember reading at the time that he was going to have to play with some pain the rest of his career. Anyone who has played any level with pain knows how this affects you physically and mentally.
I suffered a massive injury to my leg/ ankle and didnt play for 2 years. Despite being told never to play again by the doctors I did (stupidly, but I don't like being told what to do by anyone) for 2 years and now I am riddled with Arthritis.
Anyway, getting back on track, having an injury to an ankle restricts you in so many ways and if you still feel pain it is unavoidable because your weight goes through the ankle with every step you take. Now imagine that weight bearing down on your injured ankle as you twist and turn and the impact of the ball and worse a late tackle.
The thought of that never leaves you
The pain never leaves you (if it is as bad as has been reported)

*disclaimer, obviously I didn't play anywhere near his level and he will have better medical care, physio etc, but if still in pain then its similar in that sense.

Think he'll do well at Leicester, especially now that he's apparently had his ankle issue sorted.

I personally think he just got a bit too comfortable at Spurs, a big club with great facilities and needed a change to reinvigorate himself.
I'm hoping that his little spell at Samp has done that for him and he'll be up for his next challenge.

I got as frustrated as anyone by the end of his time in our team but he's far from a bad player.
Hopefully, he's now pain free, wants to play every week and will get back towards the player we hoped he'd be.

Good luck to the lad and I hope he does well.

This is a good deal for all parties. I don't know how Luton or Sheffield utd play, but is there a chance they'd want him? Luton ideal location wise, he wouldn't even have to move.

I remember being young and seeing Tom Carroll play and I thought we had a good player on our hands.

Then at an older age, watching Winks boss the midfield at the bernebeu was the standout in a number of good performances over a couple of seasons I really thought we had a star.

For whatever reason his game changed. He used to take players on in midfield and always look to pass forward in a way that sounds ridiculous but I thought was a similar style to Iniesta! But he became less adventurous and in the end a jack-of-all trades. This would be a great move for him and I’m sure he’d flourish. He’ll never be the star I hoped he would but I like to think he can establish himself as a decent prem player again one day. Although hopefully that’ll be because he outgrows Leicester as I hate them 😂

he definitely lost mobility and probably confidence after he snapped his ankle at Burnley. Could have been different but he hasnt become what we need. Similar to Fraudbjerg on the ball but with more mobility and much weaker in the tackle but at least he doesnt stamp shout have a paddy and blame everyone else for his own shortcomings though.

Does anyone know what exactly Winks had done on his ankle. "Ankle surgery" could be any number of things.

Having just had "ankle surgery" myself... I'm curious to know.

Sounds about right to me. I think top of the championship/bottom of the prem is about his level at this point.

I think it's unlikely to actually happen not yet. Winks will have suitors in Serie A and Lorient are also interested. Obviously money will talk but I suspect Winks will keep his options open for now.

Movie gif. Clint Eastwood as Walt in Gran Torino frowns with a look of disgust, shaking his head.

You got some statistical evidence to back that up?

He was never a terrible player, lost form, but he is just not at the level we need anymore but he will do a job somewhere.

Would be good for him to play in the Championship regularly and build himself back up
He's a decent player just not at the level to compete for Europe

Seen 4 mentioned. We won't get much money for those we want rid of.
Agree. I think Tottenham's problem has seemingly been the difficulty to offload players. Any money is better than none and a player still on the wage bill that has no future at the club (IMHO).

What type of fee do we think Winks commands? £15mm?

Much lower than that, I'd be surprised if we get anything over £5m.

He's reportedly on around £90k per week so it will be good just to get those wages off the books.

Christ.

£4mm for a 10 cap, home-grown 27 year old English midfielder who started a Champions League final in 2019 and is coming off 20 serie A appearances.

Our squad management has been awful. And that’s not just Levy’s doing, but also past managers letting players waste away. We used to sell our cast offs at profit under Poch. Didn’t we flip Wimmer for like 16mm to Stoke?
