Harry Winks refusing to give up hope on playing in UEFA Nations League encounter with Portugal

Harry Winks is not giving up hope of being available for England’s UEFA Nations League campaign despite groin surgery last week.

Gareth Southgate will check out Leicester midfielder James Maddison on Monday as the Foxes take on Manchester City as a potential replacement for Winks.

I agree with all of you, and would prefer they didn't risk international duty BUT isn't it just a (maximum) couple of games over the space of a few days in the first week of June?

Still enough time for the best part of a months rest before pre-season starts.

This has been Winks' breakthrough season in many respects. He should not rush anything at all and get in tiptop shape for August. If he doesn't, he could find himself disrupted by injury and by the wayside. I hope his next competitive game is for us on gameweek 1 in August.

It is, but it would be best to have all the time off football. The mind needs a rest as well as the body.

He needs a rest and time to recover. He should not rush himself back both him and Kane should have a relaxed summer.

I agree. I just don't (personally) believe a maximum of 3 more days of is going to make a great deal of difference.

There’s the before during and after though isn’t there. They will probably go away a week beforehand or if we get the the champions league final they’ll have no rest then only about 3/4 weeks off before preseason. That’s not much.

Both of them will be doing everything they can to be fit for 1st June if we get through tonight. They will also do everything to be fit for England. Especially Kane as he is captain.
