Following the conclusion of the international fixtures, the Premier League will recommence this weekend for the first time since the end of the recent transfer window.
Manager Harry Redknapp offers his thoughts on our business conducted over the summer period.
We made six new additions to the squad in Kyle Naughton, Kyle Walker, Peter Crouch, Sebastien Bassong, Niko Kranjcar and Jimmy Walker, while Didier Zokora, Chris Gunter, Gilberto, Darren Bent, Yuri Berchiche, Pascal Chimbonda and Kevin-Prince Boateng left the Club and we wish them all well for the future.
"I never felt that we needed to make a lot of changes this summer because we already had a lot of quality within our squad," reasoned Harry.
"Sometimes I think that you can have too many players and it does nothing but give you problems. The squad is stronger, I think we have bought well and it is a well-balanced squad now in all parts of the field.
"We are looking to get some of our longer-term injured players back now like Michael Dawson, Gareth Bale, Jonathan Woodgate and Jermaine Jenas. They should all be coming back to fitness pretty soon and when they do return it will make the squad even stronger.
"We did make enquiries about one or two players and there were one or two deals that were put to us. In terms of the players we were interested in bringing to the Club, the ones that we followed up our interest in, we ended up signing. We didn't miss out on anybody.
"We went for Niko Kranjcar in the last couple of days of the window and we got him. It was always my intention to bring Niko in, regardless of the injury to Luka Modric. I know Niko from my time at Portsmouth. He is a great talent and a terrific lad. He was in the last year of his contract and I know there were other Premier League clubs trying to take him but I felt he was a terrific signing for us. He knows how to play and has got real good ability on the ball. He can play in several positions, he is a real top player in my opinion who is still young enough to improve further.
"We also brought in Jimmy Walker to give us a bit of insurance with the goalkeeping situation. Jimmy is a great pro who has been around for some time. I knew him and always admired him from his days at Walsall. I thought he was the best goalkeeper outside the Premier League in those days so I am delighted to have him here. He is a real good character and will act as cover for the two quality goalkeepers we are fortunate enough to already have here in Heurelho Gomes and Carlo Cudicini.
"The two lads from Sheffield United were the first ones in at the start of the window and I think both have got great futures ahead of them.
"Kyle Naughton has come here and is still learning the game but his chance will come. It is early days for him but he is a player who I can see one day going on to be an England international full-back. He is already in the Under-21 team and we feel there are great things ahead for him. I think right-back is his best position but he can do a job elsewhere and will never let you down. He is a player with a big future.
"We loaned his team-mate Kyle Walker back to Sheffield United to get experience, which he is doing and he will join us next year. I think he has tremendous pace and I believe he is going to be a top player. Our Chief Scout Ian Broomfield went to watch him last week and I hope to go and watch him in the next couple of weeks when our fixtures do not coincide with Sheffield United's.
"Peter Crouch has been great since he has arrived. It has not been easy for him. He has come in here and he didn't start the first few games but has come off the bench and shown a fantastic attitude. He hasn't sat about sulking, feeling sorry for himself, he has trained well, he's been good around the dressing room, he's been part of the team and they are the type of people you need. Crouchy has shown why he is such a popular lad and a good pro. He has worked hard. He came on against Birmingham, turned the game in my opinion, and was fantastic. His chance is going to come soon and when it does he is going to be a real threat to everybody.
"Sebastien Bassong came in when I lost Michael Dawson and Jonathan Woodgate and he has done a great job for us. It was important that we got somebody in and he has turned in five great performances, four in the league and one in the cup and I couldn't have asked for more. He always has a smile on his face - a good trainer, good player and a smashing lad."
