Based on the WC yesterday i'd have Rafael Marquez or at least some sort of clone of him 10 years ago. What a player, never really appreciated him before but he was imense last night. Its funny how all the papers are running stories on the Mexican keeper and Arsenal, Liverpool, Newcastle etc all interested, 14 hours ago nobody had ever heard of him! Now he is the most in demand free agent in the world - love the papers.

I asked Spurspanyol if there had been any more rumours linking us with him and he said nothing in the papers but that the player wants a move.

He thinks he is more likely to be a backup option if we don't get Lovren.

He's been highly rated wherever he's been. Was on the cover of the American FIFA etc. Timed his club movements very intelligently, and proved himself in a good league. Remember there was a scandal of some sort a few years ago involving him and some other Mexican players. There does seem to be quite a lot of scandals surrounding a few members of the Mexican team recently to be honest.

Also until a year or two back a legendary FM keeper.

2 years left on his deal - usually a summer cashes out if they are going to and he's not going to cost the world. Played for Pochettino before so will be familiar with his system and demands. Also fits with Franco's penchant for transatlantic purchases.

I think Lovren is a better player but I also think he's possibly too similar to Vertonghen and that Moreno looks like he might be a more natural partner to Vertonghen/Chiriches than Lovren.

Definitely has all the hallmarks of a feasible transfer.

It's not entirely impossible we may bring in both Lovren and this guy, or this guy and someone else if Lovren chooses another club.

Spurs could be set to make a move for Espanyol's Hector Moreno after Mauricio Pochettino and Franco Baldini met in Barcelona this week.

Tottenham's manager and technical director met an agent at an Argentinian restaurant in the city to discuss transfers - with Mexican centre-back Moreno top of the list.
The 26-year-old left-sided player was outstanding against Brazil on Tuesday as Mexico kept their second clean sheet of the World Cup.
Pochettino knows all about the former AZ Alkmaar star as he signed him for Espanyol in 2011 before Moreno went on to be named the club's Player of the Year during that first year.
The Mexican recently told Espanyol that he wants to leave with the Spanish club having reportedly put an £8million price-tag on him, according to Barcelona-based newspaper El Mundo Deportivo.
Pochettino and Baldini's meeting in Barcelona suggests they want to act quickly before his price goes up or competitors emerge for the player's signature with Manchester United also rumoured to be interested.
Their new manager Louis van Gaal signed Moreno for AZ several years ago and is on the lookout for a left-sided central defender, although Thomas Vermaelen appears to be his top choice.

Very impressed with Moreno on Tuesday, £8m would be a snip.

I wonder what Argentinian food is like.

So this ties in with Baldini being spotted on a flight to Barca a few weeks ago...

I think the prem game is changing and winning/losing headers is not as vital as it once was. There aren't many teams that attack wide to sling in crosses to target men anymore.

Also we don't want two players doing the same job, so the fact that Verts is so good at winning headers means that the player alongside him doesn't need to be the same style.

With his aerial record I just can't see us choosing to have Moreno and Chiriches among our four main central defensive options. If they were then it only stands to reason that they're going to have to partner up at some stage and depending on injuries possibly a lot. That would leave us extremely vulnerable aerially and you can be sure that opposition managers would target the weakness.

Lovren isn't great in the air either but I do believe he's about decent enough in that area that a partnership between him and Chriches can work. I just can't see it with Moreno and Chiriches though. Something would have to give.

Ouch you little bitch!

You know what i mean, the guy got relegated from the Norwich of the french first division last season and released - it's not like he was top of everyones wish list before the WC. Yes he was on a copy of the USA Fifa (which represents a majority of mexican or central american supporters in a country where that population are the major support for the MLS) and he may well have been good on FM (but honestly only children would use that as an indicator for real performance - need i roll out Cherno Samba again!) my point is that teams like Arsenal go from looking to bring in the likes of Valdes one minute to Ochoa the next like there is no difference in quality. I would bet the majority of football fans in the UK would not have had him on their wish list that is all. Anyway this is meant to be about Moreno and i have no opinion on that so i'll stop talking.....
