Stephen Carr would also have been in that squad as RB.

If you go one or two sesasons before that, you would have seen a very threadbear squad - Campbell and Carr just breaking through from the youth set up and Neilsen just arrriving - but even with those I seem to only recal there being about 15 players. Scary stuff.

People don't realise the strength and depth of Spurs squad today if they haven't seen that one !

You have to consider that there is much more money in football today than back in 96-97. This money has help increase size of squads, fuel wages to a level where clubs can and do attract the very best players from across the globe.

I suspect if you looked at a lot of premier club squads in 96-97, they would look as scary as ours and probably containing a greater number of british and home grown players than they do today.

In summary, the quality of squads at all clubs has massively improved ( except Liverpool!!) since 1996/7 and we have managed to keep up and maybe benefited more than others through a clear and robust strategy over the last 10 years.

Good idea, but I'd also put in an 'Ins and Outs' addendum underneath the squad listings, as back then players could join and leave a club throughout the season

First season I got in to football and Spurs was 1994/1995 season straight after the world cup. You know the season......I think it got doubed "Klinmania"

Purely from memory

Ian Walker
Dean Austin Gary Mabbout Justin Edinburgh
Darren Anderton Gica Popescu Nick Barmby
Teddy Sheringham Jurgen Klinsman

There was also Illie Dumitrescu - I forget how they all fit in these days - I remember it being the "famous 5" up front.

I'm sure Barmby was never a left winger but litterally all I can remember was the players not where they all played.

Had quite a few players in reserve back then and IMO, with a decent manager, we could have been a lot better.
Started the season out of the FA Cup and with a 12 point deduction Sugar fought it until the FA Relented and we got to the FA Cup semi final against Everton only to lose (get battered) 4-1 when every one thought our name was on the cup.

Tbh, everything went down hill from there for years and years. Klinsmann and Popescu left and we replaced them with Chris Armstrong and god knows who.
We finished above the scum that year. At the end of that season they signed one of our targets, a chap called Dennis Berkamp.
IMO he was the catalyst for them, he was there before Wenger.

(y)

Yeah the 94/95 season was memorable purely for the fact that we scored tons of goals but we couldn't defend for shit, case in point the opening day when we went to Hillsborough and beat Wednesday 4-3 with Klinsmann getting in the winner.....you know what happened next.

Yeh same, this is as far back as I can remember football wise. I can remember even at a young age and not knowing much about the game that our defence was just... shit :ROFLMAO: Obviously we had Judas at that point but he was still a young player, Mabbutt I thought at the time was rubbish, looking back now I just realise a good player had just got old and slow, the fullbacks were total gash and then we had other woeful players like Stuart Nethercott

How far we going back ?

Ditchburn, Ramsey (Willis). Clarke, Withers, Nicholson, Burgess, Bailey, Duquemin, Walters gap ... thinking .. Medley.. um um ... Got it ! Bennett .. Phew that tested the memory ! 49/50 2nd Div champs 50/51 1st Div champs and Ramsey missed Cup semi final pen that allowed Blackpool to advance to the Mathews final (53 ?).

Later Robb, Harmer, Stokes, Blanchflower etc and onwards to 59/60 blew the league at Easter then 60/61 nuff said !

In my late teens I travelled home and away from season 66/67 through to 1974, rarely missing a game (not easy when you live in Manchester). The 66/67 team lost at Old Trafford in the 2nd week of January, then went on an unbeaten run to the end of the season of 24 league and cup matches - even the double winning team didn't manage to achieve that. At the start of the next season we drew the Charity Shield match and avoided defeat in the 1st 4 league games of season 67/68 - a total run of 29 matches unbeaten. This is the cup winning team of that era;

Jennings; Kinnear, Knowles; Mullery, England, MacKay; Robertson, Greaves, Gilzean, Venables, Saul.
