He was class, never ever let us down

Well apart from once I think, I was there the day he finally got BOOKED away to Swindon in a boring 0-0 draw. To this day I reckon the ref either had it in for him or wanted his autograph

In those days we used to play our youth and reserve matches at White Hart Lane, so I got to see him come threw the ranks, he also made a couple of appearances in goal, in the days of 1 sub, and that sub was named before kick off

Definitely the most talented player to come from these shores, can't think of anyone better from any team.

He is the reason why I supported Tottenham.

The way this country misused his talents was criminal, if he was born twenty years later, he would have been an international superstar.

Kept out of the Engand team by Bryan Robson for a long time. War horse over skill set - Surely managers should have found room for them both.

I saw him have to go in goal against Utd in a cup replay at Old Trafford 1980 I think. Aleskic was flattened by Joe Jorden ( broke his jaw) and Glenn went into the nets. We won with a extra time goal from Ossie.

That was a screamer by Ossie

As an ambassador for the club and in a coaching role also he would be great.

Unfortunately (?) football is and was his life .. Knowledge about reality and the ways of the world are not.

Many foot in mouth comments down the years. Not doing GH down, just saying diplomacy was never one of his strong points.

This is me - a pauper - talking about a famous millionaire sportsman - Go figure

I was watching this last night, Hoddle was just a little bit before my time. He's one player I would have loved to have seen play. I love the Watford goal, pure class.

And, I'm really surprised he's not made it back into management. Clearly he's got something to offer in the right circumstances.

due to work and other commitments was unable to go to the replay, and also had a cup match playing darts. I remember getting home not trying to find out the score and watched it on the BBC highlights. ive never been so nervous watching highlights of a match before in my life.

my heart sank when Elastic got injured, and my old mum and dad wasn't too happy when Ossie scored that screamer

Brian Robson was a fantastic player. It was that **** Ray Wilkins that kept getting picked which was the problem. Fuck me what a boring waste of space he was on a football pitch

Has anyone been watching this on Sky Sports one? (started at 10)

What a player this man was

Unfortunately I never had the chance to see him play as he had already left the club by the time I was old enough to watch, but I heard tales about him from my dad and granddad

Watching the clips of what he could do, his skill, pose, passing range, shooting ability, everything,,,,such a gracefully elegant player who really was an under appreciated genius

In my personal and humble opinion he is the finest English player ever, second only to George Best in terms of players who have ever played in the English league

I think had he played for a Man U or a Liverpool he would receive significantly more recognition for his ability and achievements than he gets

Fantastic player

Was first shown last week. I had the privilege to see him live. Total genius, under appreciated outside of WHL. Great programme that everyone should watch.

Perhaps my most "memorable" moment at WHL was in the home game against Feyenoord when Hoddle was awesome and after he pinged another 60 yard pass the guy a few seats away from me stands up and says "I'd be a poof for you Glenn" :)

Dude was an absolute genius, the weight on his passes was ridiculous. If he was playing today would be best in the prem.

I really think he should be held in the same regard as the Best's, Charlton's and Dalglish's of this world

I suppose its because he didn't have the same international career to match his club level one or that he didn't play for the press favourite teams like Man U and Liverpool

He just seems to have had everything to his game

God I feel old! :)

Hoddle was the biggest influence on the way I played as a youngster. I absolutely idolised him and tried to play as he did.

Needless to say, I didn't make the grade.

It's interesting that Le Tissier is mentions here too. I trialled at Soton when I was 15, at my second trial, we got to train with and play against the Soton youth. I played CM, but in that trial they put me in at CH because of my height (I'm 6'4" now and over 6' then). I was up against this big nosed CF who ran rings around me all game. Turns out it was Le Tiss.

He was special, but they broke the mould after they made Hoddle. Even with sporadic England appearances, he was still rated in the top 5 midfielders in the World. Both Platini and Maradonna played at that time, I personally believe that only Maradonna topped him, and not by much either, as his skill set was more akin to Gazza's.

Totally unique, completely unappreciated by his country. The fact that the team wasn't built around him is probably the biggest travesty in English national Football.

Yeah, me and my old man purposely made sure we didn't know score too, went nuts when Ossie scored :). Those were the days!
